I enjoyed NRCA Executive Vice President Bill Good's column, "The single-ply phenomenon," October issue, page 78. I remember the early days of single-plies, as well.

An additional thing worth noting is that single-ply roof systems have allowed many roofing contractors to keep their employees busy for an entire year. I remember when many roofing contractors in the Northeast and Midwest basically shut down their businesses in early December and started again in March, laying off most of their roof mechanics for the winter.

Now, with many single-ply roof systems, such as mechanically attached heat-welded systems, workers can push snow out of the way and keep working.
