It is not uncommon to talk to foremen in the roofing industry and hear them say their employees do not care about their work. “They’re only there for the paycheck” often is said with some disdain.
The truth is most people want to be good at what they do and want to care about their work. People are driven to contribute and be proud of their contributions. Sometimes, employees act like they do not care when they do not feel good about their contributions or are unsure whether they are doing a good job.
Lack of training or preparation for their work may leave people feeling uncertain, especially in an environment where there may be a lot of criticism but not much positive feedback. Although it will not solve every problem, providing positive feedback and offering training to your employees will help you develop people who care about their work and act accordingly.
