Granules improve air quality

3M™ has made available its 3M Smog-reducing Granules. The nonporous, weather-resistant granules can be integrated throughout the surfaces of asphalt shingles to remove nitrogen oxides from polluted air. 3M Smog-reducing Granules are designed with a specialized photocatalytic coating that reportedly is activated by ultraviolet rays to generate radicals and transform nitrogen oxide gases into water-soluble ions, improving air quality.

Grinders have brushless motors

DEWALT® has introduced three small-angle grinders: the 5-inch Slide Switch Small Angle Grinder, the 5-inch/6-inch Paddle Switch Small Angle Grinder and the 5-inch/6-inch Trigger Switch Small Angle Grinder. Weighing 5.3 pounds, the 5-inch Slide Switch Small Angle Grinder reportedly achieves 13 amps and features an E-Clutch® System and Kickback Brake that automatically shut down the tool when a wheel pinch or stall is detected. Two removable mesh screens keep debris from entering the grinder during use, and the grinder's on/off switch has a no-volt release function to help prevent accidental turn-on. The 5-inch/6-inch Paddle Switch Small Angle Grinder and the 5-inch/6-inch Trigger Switch Small Angle Grinder reportedly achieve 13 amps and feature E-Clutch Systems, Kickback Brakes and Lanyard Ready™ integrated connection points for secure tool tethering. All the small-angle grinders have brushless motors that do not require brush changes.

Roof insulation designed for metal use

Atlas® Roofing Corp. has made available ACFoam® Supreme foil-faced roof insulation. Designed for use in metal, mechanically attached and ballasted single-ply membrane roof system applications, ACFoam Supreme insulation is made of a closed-cell polyisocyanurate foam core bonded to reflective tri-laminate foil facers. ACFoam Supreme insulation is available in a variety of thicknesses, reportedly providing long-term thermal resistance (LTTR) values from 5.7 to 26.8. ACFoam Supreme insulation is said to meet ASTM C1289, Type 1, Class 1, Grade 2 or Grade 3 standards and is available in 4- by 4-foot and 4- by 8-foot panels.

Granules prevent algae growth

GAF has added StainGuard Plus™ Time-Release Technology to its Timberline Ultra HD® asphalt shingles. Shingles made with StainGuard Plus Time-Release Technology contain granules reportedly infused with thousands of copper microsites. In wet conditions, the granules release copper microsites onto a roof system to help prevent blue-green algae growth. Timberline Ultra HD asphalt shingles replicate the look of wood shakes and are available in seven colors.

Drain mat prevents moisture penetration

TAMKO® Building Products Inc. has introduced its TW-Drain 220 drain mat designed to help keep water out of residential and commercial concrete waterproofing projects. Featuring a dimpled drainage core and filter fabric, TW-Drain 220 reportedly protects entry points from moisture penetration into buildings by allowing water to flow through the drainage core rather than build up within concrete. TW-Drain 220 can be used for above-grade applications and is available in 50-foot rolls with 4-foot widths.
