Roof system is efficient

Henry Co. has made available the Henry DuraTac™ SA, a self-adhering roof system that is said to be clean and durable. The modified bitumen roof membrane also is said to install quickly without the use of special tools.

A traditional SBS-modified roofing compound is featured on top of the roof membrane and an SBS-modified adhesive is on the bottom. Split-back release film and a tear-resistant fiberglass-reinforced mat is said to offer seamless application. The lightweight roll-applied system is available in rolls with net coverage of 100 square feet for cap sheets and 200 square feet for base sheets.

The system's ceramic-coated granules offer ultraviolet resistance, and the roof system colors include black, white, cool gray, desert tan and weathered wood.

Cap cutter offers safety

Jabos Industries Inc. has introduced the Magnum Cap Cutter, a three-tab cutter that cuts five three-tab shingles into 15 ridge caps. Shingles are said to be cut perfectly with the pull of a lever, eliminating the need for a knife.

The Magnum Cap Cutter is designed to be used with a portable stand or hitch elevation attachment. It is said to cut 10 bundles of shingles in 20 minutes or less and contain all shingle debris to one area. The product also can cut frozen shingles.

System offers gutter protection

The Leaf Defier™ Gutter Protection System, an open-cell polyurethane insert specially shaped to fit into any gutter, has been made available by Monzi Inc. The system is said to be lightweight and flexible and easy to install without using additional tools.

The Leaf Defier features Extreme Defiance Coating, a multipolymer coating treatment that is said to protect against extreme weather conditions. The product is said to prevent growth of fungus, mold, mildew, algae and moss and has a built-in ultraviolet stabilizer that prevents degradation from the sun. The product also features soundproof materials and is said to fit all standard 5-inch and 6-inch K-style gutters. Half-rounds and custom shapes are available.

Snow guards prevent damage

East Coast Roof Specialties has released IceBrakes, cast aluminum pad-style snow guards that are available in two models to accommodate various metal roof pan dimensions. The snow guards are said to prevent metal roof damage from snow and ice by allowing accumulated snow to melt away gradually.

Made from 319 alloy aluminum that reportedly will not rust or discolor, IceBrakes are compatible with steel roofing materials and should be installed to a roof surface without roof penetrations to eliminate potential leaks and maintenance associated with mechanically fastened snow retention systems. The product is available in bare mill finish, powder-coated colors and custom colors.

Tape measure is for roofing

The L.S. Starrett Co. Hardware Division has released a new measuring tape designed specifically for roofing workers. The Roofing Tape Measure RT1-25 has a custom blade with two scales and is designed to help lay out common roof shingles.

The tape measure features a black-print scale ruled for conventional 5-inch spacing and a red-print scale for architectural markings with 5 1/2-inch spacing. The black bond markings are indicated by a circle around the number, and the red bond markings are indicated by an oval around the number. The roofing tape also offers Starrett's Tough Tip,® which is said to extend the tape measure's life.
