GAF Materials Corp. has introduced its EnergyCap™ modified bitumen cap sheet that combines a Ruberoid® modified bitumen membrane and Topcoat® elastomeric coating into a single roof membrane.
The EnergyCap membrane is said to be "brilliant white" and reduce labor costs by more than 25 percent compared with site-applied coatings. It also is said to have up to 157 percent greater reflectivity than a standard white modified bitumen cap sheet. The EnergyCap membrane is available in SBS-modified bitumen for hot-mopped or cold applications or APP-modified bitumen for torch applications.

Legs extend sealant pocket
Carlisle SynTec Inc. has introduced its Sure-Weld® TPO Sealant Pocket Extension Legs that are said to extend its TPO Molded Sealant Pocket and TPO Pre-Fabricated Sealant Pocket by 10-inch increments.
The Sure-Weld TPO Sealant Pocket Extension Legs are fabricated from 45-mil-thick TPO-reinforced membrane and TPO-coated metal and can be used at full length, cut to size for customized lengths or welded to each other for extra-long applications. Adhesive is durable

Shingle offers large exposure
Elk Premium Building Products Inc. has introduced Domain® Ashford,® a random-cut shingle that is said to have a large exposure that adds depth and dimension to a roof. The exposure ranges from 4 7/16 inches to 8 7/8 inches.
Domain Ashford shingles are said to resemble wood shakes and create a natural-looking roof line. The shingles are available in Ravenswood, shadow gray, Browncastle and Stonehenge colors.

Products offer low-slope options
CertainTeed Corp. has made available five SBS-modified bitumen products for low-slope roof systems, including Flintlastic® SA PlyBase, Flintlastic SA Cap FR, Flintlastic FR Cap T, Flintlastic FR Base T and FlintClad.™
Flintlastic SA PlyBase is a 2-square, 88-pound self-adhering roll, and Flintlastic SA Cap FR is a 1-square, 97-pound self-adhering cap sheet. Both include a nailable base, self-adhering cap sheet and self-adhering mid ply and are said to be durable, strong and easy to install.
Flintlastic FR Cap T Sheet is a mineral-surfaced fiberglass mat that comes in 1-square, 100-pound rolls, and the Flintlastic FR Base T Sheet is a fiberglass-reinforced SBS-modified bitumen base sheet available in 1-square, 81-pound rolls. Both Flintlastic torch-applied products are Underwriters Laboratories Inc.-fire rated and Class-A approved for two-ply or multilayer modified bitumen fire-rated roof systems.
FlintClad is an aluminum-faced SBS-modified bitumen membrane used for vertical flashings or as a cap sheet. It weighs 95 pounds per 1-square roll and is torch-applied.

Safety system offers versatility
Garlock Equipment has introduced Fall-Ban CableGuard, a fall-protection system said to work on almost any building or roof and eliminate repositioning.
Fall-Ban CableGuard attaches to the edge of a building and uses stanchions attached at the roof edge to support three rows of steel cables. Fall-Ban CableGuard reportedly is durable, lightweight and allows workers freedom of movement anywhere on the roof.

Saws offer accuracy
Makita U.S.A. Inc. has made available its model LS1013L dual-slide compound miter saw with a 10-inch blade diameter and model LS1214L dual-slide compound miter saw with a 12-inch blade diameter. Both saws are said to have built-in laser precision, micro-fine adjustments and an independent switch that allows the laser to be seen with or without the blade rotating.
Models LS1013L and LS1214L feature dual rails with dual steel linear ball bearings that reportedly provide accurate cuts, a blade system that is said to minimize deflection and tow for smooth cuts, and a slide mechanism. Both models feature a single-piece aluminum base and bevel cutting to cut up to 45 degrees left and right.

Underlayment is durable
Johns Manville has introduced DuraBase,™ an underlayment that combines asphalt and a nonwoven polyester reinforcement.
DuraBase is said to be durable, hold nails better and provide greater tear strength and puncture resistance than synthetics or felt. It also is said to have enhanced ultraviolet resistance and seal around nails to prevent water infiltration.
DuraBase can unroll flat in warm and cold weather, weighs less than felt and reportedly provides greater coverage per roll to increase installation efficiency and decrease installation time.

Membrane resists leaks
Grace Construction Products has introduced its Grace Roof Detail Membrane, a self-adhering membrane designed specifically for waterproofing critical roof detail areas.
Grace Roof Detail Membrane is composed of a rubberized asphalt adhesive and layer of cross-laminate polyethylene and said to be flexible and conform to common roof details, reducing the risk of leaks. The membrane has an embossed surface, reportedly resists fungus and bacteria, and is available in widths of 9 inches or 18 inches.
