Flashing system is easy to apply

Garland Co. has introduced its Tuff-Flash™ liquid flashing system, a single-component liquid-applied mastic that reportedly is durable and easy to apply.

Tuff-Flash is an asphalt polyurethane that adheres to a variety of metal surfaces, as well as SBS polymer-modified bitumen, APP polymer-modified bitumen, and smooth or mineral-surfaced asphalt roofs. It requires no mixing and can be installed with a brush or trowel.

Tuff-Flash reportedly is low-odor, volatile organic compound-free, durable, reflective and ultraviolet-resistant when surfaced. It also can be layered with Garland's Grip Polyester® fabric to add tensile strength and asphalt waterproofing.

Infrared cameras are affordable

FLIR has redesigned its i-Series point-and-shoot infrared camera models i3, i5 and i7. The redesigned cameras feature higher resolutions and wider field-of-view angles and are the same price as the original models.

i-Series cameras capture thousands of calibrated temperature measurements in each image to produce a complete thermal picture that shows where hot spots and other heat-related anomalies may be present.

Shingle line is expanded

GAF has added its Woodland™ Lifetime Designer Shingles, designed to look like hand-cut European shingles, to its Lifetime Designer Shingles Value Collection.

Woodland Lifetime Designer Shingles are available in Castlewood gray, Woodberry brown, Cedarwood abbey, Canterbury black and Tuscan sunset.

Additionally, GAF has relaunched its EverGuard® Freedom™ TPO with RapidSeam™ Technology. Using EverGuard Freedom TPO with RapidSeam reportedly eliminates more than 95 percent of field seam preparation. It also is said to have no fumes and requires no open flames, hot asphalt or solvent-based adhesives.

Underlayment reduces installation time

CertainTeed Corp. has added DryRoof™ TU tile underlayment to its line of roofing products.

DryRoof TU's self-adhering, high-strength polyester fabric surface with SBS polymer-modified bitumen is designed for use under foam-applied clay tile.

The underlayment's adhesive bottom surface is protected with a disposable silicone-coated release film, which is split down the middle for easier application. It also reportedly reduces installation time by eliminating the need for nailing and is formulated to resist temperatures up to 250 F.

CertainTeed also has announced it is strengthening 15 of its highly reflective, low-slope CoolStar™ roofing products with an enhanced ceramic granule surface. The granulated, uncoated finish reportedly has no special installation requirements, is aesthetically pleasing and has a high solar reflectivity, which reduces roof temperatures as much as 20 percent. CoolStar is designed to work with a variety of roof systems, including built-up, SBS polymer-modified bitumen, APP polymer-modified bitumen and self-adhering polymer-modified bitumen.

CertainTeed also has introduced its Landmark™ Solaris™ Gold, Landmark Solaris Platinum and Presidential Shake™ Solaris asphalt shingles. Landmark Solaris Gold offers 25 percent solar reflectivity and is available in rich, dark hues. Landmark Solaris Platinum offers a 40 percent solar reflectivity. And Presidential Shake Solaris offers a 25 percent solar reflectivity and is designed to resemble wood shakes.

Additionally, CertainTeed has added Landmark Pro shingles to its Landmark Series asphalt shingles. Landmark Pro shingles reportedly are algae-resistant and include more weathering asphalt for added protection. They also incorporate CertainTeed's premium Max Definition vibrant color blend technology, which features a mixture of surface granules to create a bright, dramatic appearance and color depth. They are designed with additional shingle weight at 250 pounds per square and are outfitted with CertainTeed's NailTrak™ feature allowing for fast and accurate installation.

Shingles are durable

Owens Corning Roofing & Asphalt LLC has introduced its TruDefinition® Duration® Series Shingles engineered with SureNail® Technology, which feature a tough, woven engineered reinforcing fabric in the nailing area. SureNail Technology's triple-layer design reportedly helps the shingles withstand winds up to 130 mph using four nails per shingle.

The TruDefinition Duration Series offers three types of shingles—TruDefinition Duration Shingles, TruDefinition Duration Designer Colors Collection Shingles and TruDefinition Duration STORM™ Shingles. TruDefinition Duration Shingles are formulated to provide contrast and dimension. TruDefinition Duration Designer Colors Collection Shingles offer a full palette of colors. And TruDefinition Duration STORM Shingles feature Owens Corning Roofing & Asphalt's WeatherGuard® Technology and reportedly are designed for maximum holding power.

Measuring system is accurate

Verifly LLC has announced its Verifly™ system for insurance and roofing industry professionals. The system allows users to get real-time roof images and complete a roof plan on-site using readily available software or applications with a smartphone, tablet, netbook, laptop or personal computer. Users also can choose to forward real-time images to a remote roof measuring service for roof plan completion.

Verifly consists of a specially designed camera platform system that an adjuster, claim specialist or roofing contractor can launch from ground level with a remote control. The camera-bearing platform vertically rises to a predetermined altitude above the structure and captures structure and rooftop images from which roof plan measurements can be determined.

Verifly's turnaround time for a start-to-finish roof plan reportedly is as little as 30 minutes. The system's high-megapixel images also are said to provide a margin of error potentially down to less than 1 percent.

Sealant is weatherproof

Novagard Solutions Inc. has introduced its NOVAFLEX® Multi-Purpose Adhesive Sealant for metal roof system repair or installation. The sealant is solvent-free, volatile organic compound-compliant, and ultraviolet- and mildew-resistant. It reportedly cures in as little as 24 hours, has shrinkage on cure of 1 to 4 percent and is weatherproof.

Estimating solution streamlines workflow

Gutter system installs quickly

W.P. Hickman Co. has made available its Wind Resistant Gutter System, which is available in a traditional profile shape or box-face profile. It incorporates a 2-inch-wide extruded aluminum internal gutter bracket, which reportedly reduces the metal's torque with expansion and contraction during temperature changes. The system includes prefabricated miters, end caps, expansion joints and downspout starter tubes. It also has prepunched nail holes and stainless-steel fasteners to allow for fast and easy installation.
