Hot-air tool is easy to use

Leister Technologies AG has released the TRIAC AT hot-air hand tool, TRIAC PID's successor and a cost-effective alternative to the TRIAC S. It is designed for plastic welding and shrinking jobs that require precise temperature and processing control.

Compared with TRIAC PID, TRIAC AT's e-drive display reportedly is easier to read and use and can be set to save preferred parameters for speed, temperature and air volume. Solar roof mount is watertight

Thompson Technology Industries Inc. has introduced its Flat Jack® Comp Shingle Mount for installing photovoltaic (PV) panels on composition shingle roofs.

Made of galvanized steel, Flat Jack Comp Shingle Mount reportedly is watertight, reduces labor costs, and requires no shingle trimming or sealants. It anchors to the roof's rafters, providing a solid foundation, and converts a shingle roof system into a solar platform. The system reportedly is built to withstand heavy vertical loads and high winds. It also is said to be compatible with all standard PV rail systems and can support other rooftop installations, including HVAC equipment, antennas, solar thermal or flagpoles.

Roof vent deflects water and snow

Duraflo® has launched its WeatherPRO® PRO Slantback Roof Vent, which is designed to allow high airflow while defending against weather infiltration. The WeatherPRO internal baffles reportedly deflect water and snow, allowing drainage.

WeatherPRO PRO Slantback Roof Vent has been tested to -40 C with no cracking or chipping. It is manufactured from ultraviolet-resistant polypropylene material and incorporates a moisture-control system that directs and deflects precipitation away from vent openings.

Roof sealer is durable

Tremco® Inc.'s Roofing and Building Maintenance Division has introduced its TremSeal™ Pitch Pocket Sealer to its line of roofing products.

TremSeal Pitch Pocket Sealer is a two-component system that fully cures in as little as 30 minutes and is odor- and volatile organic compound-free. It is said to help protect roof surfaces, flashings and rooftop equipment from damaging water intrusion. It also reportedly is a strong, durable sealer with high-compressive strength, which develops unprimed adhesion to masonry, metal, bituminous roofing plies and other common roofing materials.

Roof membrane provides protection

Roof repair tape fits narrow spaces

Monitor measures PV panel output

Kirberg Co. has introduced its Helios Monitor, which measures photovoltaic (PV) panel output and converts it into a visual display that provides energy-output data. The monitor enables businesses to identify their real-time savings from using PV panels and how PV panel use contributes to their bottom lines.

Helios Monitor can be installed on any existing PV roof. It measures output from the PV system's solar inverter and converts it into a visual display of instant kilowatts (kWs), as well as daily, weekly, monthly and lifetime kWs, produced. Helios Monitor also converts the kWs used to report solar offset in equivalent terms of pounds of carbon dioxide, dozens of light bulbs, gallons of gas, barrels of oil, tree seedlings grown, pounds of coal saved and pounds of waste recycled.

Designer shingles are durable

GAF has introduced its Monaco™ Lifetime Designer Shingles, which reportedly replicate European tile and are budget-friendly and easier to install.

Monaco Lifetime Designer Shingles reportedly won't crack when walked on and are easy to replace if damaged. They also resist damage from pests and avoid permanent staining that can be found on tile roofs. The shingles are offered in five color options.

Additionally, GAF has introduced its Timberline® American Harvest™ Lifetime Shingles, which are designed with an optimized construction and advanced color application technique that is said to result in an extra-dimensional look.

Fume claims guide is available

The National Roofing Legal Resource Center's (NRLRC's) A Roofing Contractor's Guide to Fume Claims is available in the NRCA Bookstore at shop.nrca.net.

The guide addresses alleged health effects from fumes or vapors emitted from roofing products; potential legal liability associated with the installation of materials that emit fumes; and strategies to reduce potential liability for fume-related bodily injury claims.

A Roofing Contractor's Guide to Fume Claims is $125 for NRCA members and $250 for nonmembers. NRLRC members receive the guide as a benefit of membership. NRCA publishes PV guide

NRCA has published NRCA Guidelines for Roof Systems With Rooftop Photovoltaic Components. This new document updates NRCA's original photovoltaic (PV) guidelines document published in 2009 and provides NRCA's latest best practices for PV roof systems. It includes basic PV terminology; a discussion of standards; electrical, building and fire code requirements applicable to roof-mounted PV systems; and NRCA's recommendations for roof system and roof flashing enhancements necessary for successful roof system performance.

The guide also includes information regarding expanded code requirements based on new 2012 codes. The guide features figures displaying proper PV system installation, helpful references and a topic-specific glossary.
