NRCA partners with Rebuilding Together® for charity event
On Feb. 4, Washington, D.C.-based Rebuilding Together, NRCA's national charity partner, held its 15th annual Kickoff to Rebuild event three days before the National Football League's (NFL's) Super Bowl XLIV in Miami.
During the event, celebrity guest Steve Harvey, NFL players and officials, and community members volunteered to help rebuild the historic neighborhood of Coconut Grove by providing free home repairs that embrace safe and healthy housing principles. More than 300 volunteers worked to repair seven homes—including three that needed new roof systems.
Following the event, about 1,000 people attended a celebratory block party with food, local vendors, sponsors and music.
"NRCA has been a sponsor of Kickoff to Rebuild for 10 years now, and this year's event was not only the largest ever but also received the most media attention," says NRCA Executive Vice President Bill Good. "Like all events of this kind, it took an incredible amount of time and energy, and I'm especially grateful to Billy Cone for stepping up to see that several homeowners in desperate need received new roofs."
Cone, owner of RoofTech Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the company that performed much of the roofing work for Kickoff to Rebuild, was an eager participant.
"We at RoofTech believe in helping those in need as much as possible," Cone says. "It is humbling to be a part of providing a better way of life for those who are less fortunate. We only wish we had more to give more."

The center will launch RoofPoint™
The Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing has announced it will launch RoofPoint, a voluntary, consensus-based point system that will provide a means to evaluate environmentally sustainable roof systems. The system is set to launch later this year following an industry review and comment period.
RoofPoint is intended to act as a guideline for the selection of roof systems that will maximize energy efficiency and minimize negative environmental effects. The system will provide a checklist to evaluate the ways roof systems can benefit the economy and environment and act as an assessment tool to compare alternative sustainable roofing options. It will address reroofing and new construction and emphasize durability.
