Featured NRCA products

During November, NRCA's technical products—including its roofing and waterproofing manuals—are 20 percent off.

Discounted products include The NRCA Roofing Manual: Metal Panel and SPF Roof Systems—2008, which contains information about the design, materials and installation techniques applicable to metal panel and spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roof systems used in low- and steep-slope applications.

Also discounted during November is The NRCA Building Codes Manual, Third Edition. This manual is designed to assist you in using model building codes and understanding the roofing-related provisions they contain. It includes detailed analyses of building code requirements for specific roof system types contained in the 2006 International Building Code, 2006 International Residential Code and National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA's) 2006 edition of NFPA 5000: Building Construction and Safety Code

In addition, during November, NRCA's bookstore is offering 35 percent off The NRCA Roofing Manual: Metal Panel and SPF Roof Systems—2008 on CD and NRCA Construction Details on CD—2008.

The NRCA Roofing Manual: Metal Panel and SPF Roof Systems—2008 on CD contains the most comprehensive technical roofing information currently published by NRCA. NRCA Construction Details on CD—2008 can be used with AutoCAD software to customize plans to fit specific project needs. Both CDs feature construction details contained in the print versions of The NRCA Roofing Manual: Metal Panel and SPF Roof Systems—2008, The NRCA Roofing Manual: Membrane Roof Systems—2007 and The NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual, Fifth Edition, with its 2003 and 2006 updates.

NRCA partners with BuildSite

NRCA has partnered with BuildSite LLC, Oakland, Calif., a company that focuses on the informational needs of contractors and their suppliers, to make NRCA's most important construction details available on BuildSite's Web site, www.buildsite.com.

BuildSite now includes popular roof system construction details found in The NRCA Roofing Manual: Membrane Roof Systems, as well as frequently accessed waterproofing details found in The NRCA Waterproofing Manual, 2005 Edition. BuildSite presents the individual details as "category documents"—users will see them in the context of searches for products in BuildSite's waterproofing and roofing categories, including Sheet Waterproofing, Bentonite Waterproofing, Metal Roofing, Built-up, Membrane and Coated Foamed categories.

"Designers and contractors have long considered NRCA the definitive source for roofing and waterproofing details," says Ned Trainor, BuildSite's president. "Our customers will be delighted to easily access the details for submittals and job-site reference."

NRCA Executive Vice President Bill Good says the development contributes to NRCA's goals.

"NRCA is excited BuildSite has chosen to incorporate NRCA's most frequently used details in its products," Good says. "Our goal, of course, is to see the details widely used in the industry, and BuildSite's initiative supports that goal."

NRCA University launches online educational program

This month, NRCA University launches Vegetative Roof Systems, an interactive online educational program that takes about an hour to complete and focuses on vegetative roof system types, components, accessories, design, installation, maintenance and safety concerns.

Vegetative Roof Systems is divided into lessons for each topic. The program will benefit roofing contractors, architects, building owners, manufacturers, roof system designers and other roofing professionals interested in an introduction to vegetative roof systems.

Vegetative Roof Systems is one of seven modules in NRCA University's Roofing, Energy and the Environment Series, an online educational program aimed at helping roofing professionals and end users understand how roof systems can contribute to energy conservation and environmental protection. Other modules will include Cool Roofs, Photovoltaics and Roofing, Building Codes and Rating Systems for Roofing, Introduction to Energy-efficient Roof Systems, and EnergyWise Tutorial and Case Studies. Those who complete the entire Roofing, Energy and the Environment Series and pass a final exam will receive a Roofing, Energy and the Environment Series Certificate.

For more information about Vegetative Roof Systems or NRCA University's Roofing, Energy and the Environment Series, contact Jeanne Schehl, NRCA University's director of education program development, at (800) 323-9545, ext. 7566 or jeaschehl@nrca.net.

SpecRight Program is successful

More than 260 participants have successfully completed SpecRight Program training sessions. The SpecRight Program, an NRCA-sponsored initiative supported by The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress and other industry partners, educates roofing professionals about sustainable, environmentally friendly, energy-efficient roof systems.

SpecRight Program training sessions stress the importance of proper design, quality materials, proper installation and ongoing roof system maintenance. The program gives roofing contractors the tools necessary to emphasize a roof system's quality over its cost.

A SpecRight Program training session will be held in Las Vegas Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, as part of NRCA's 122nd Annual Convention. The program also is available as a customized educational training program.

For more information, visit www.specright.net or contact Allison Noble, NRCA University's manager of customized education, at (800) 323-9545, ext. 7509 or anoble@nrca.net.
