NRCA University launches series' certificate exam module
In July, NRCA University launched its Roofing, Energy and the Environment Series Certificate Examination module; individuals seeking to obtain a Roofing, Energy and the Environment Series Certificate must successfully complete the exam. The certificate confirms participants have the knowledge necessary to help customers make roofing decisions that focus on roof system performance, life-cycle cost and longevity, sustainable design, energy efficiency and environmental protection.
The Certificate Examination module is divided into two parts. The first part, the Certification Examination Study module, allows participants to review the series' other modules they have completed and provides sample examination questions and study guides. The second part, the Certificate Examination module, consists of 50 multiple-choice and true-or-false questions that address information from the series' other modules.
The examination must be completed within 90 days of the day a participant begins the study module. Participants have a seven-day period to begin accessing the series' other modules for review; the seven-day period starts the day participants begin the study module. After initial access, participants have seven days to access and review each module. Once participants have begun the series examination, they have three hours to complete it.
With the release of the Certificate Examination module, the Roofing, Energy and the Environment Series is complete. The series features seven online learning modules intended to help roofing professionals and end users understand how roof systems can contribute to energy conservation and environmental protection.

CERTA programs to be held in Chicago
NRCA will hold a Certified Roofing Torch Applicator (CERTA) Train-the-trainer Authorization program Nov. 12 in Chicago.
Program participants complete a 10-hour accreditation program addressing how to teach torch safety. Through classroom instruction and hands-on torching activities, participants learn the latest and best industry safety practices for torch-applied roof systems and the skills needed to train others about torch safety. After successfully completing the program, participants are authorized to conduct CERTA training for roofing workers. Authorized trainers receive training materials, including an instructors guide and English and Spanish editions of the CERTA student manual and training video.
Additionally, NRCA will hold a CERTA Train-the-trainer Reauthorization program Nov. 13 in Chicago.
The program advances participants' training and facilitation skills and allows them to demonstrate roof torching skills. In addition, participants receive training that specifically addresses the requirements of the CERTA applicator recertification class; accreditation renewal is required every three years.
