Kickoff to Rebuild 2007

Rebuilding Together,® which is the largest volunteer housing rehabilitation organization in the U.S., held its 12th annual pre-Super Bowl event—Kickoff to Rebuild—Feb. 2 in Miami. NFL officials and players, as well as community members, volunteered their services for the rehabilitation of the home of Thelma Walker, a 67-year-old Miami resident. NRCA was a co-sponsor of the event, and Advanced Roofing Inc., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was a title sponsor.

In October 2005, Walker's house flooded during Hurricane Wilma, causing damage to the interior and exterior of the house, as well as the roof. Rebuilding Together and its sponsors supplied Walker's home with a new roof, among other repairs.

The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress; Florida Roofing, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors Association Inc.; and Bradco Supply Corp., Avenel, N.J., also provided monetary and material donations for Kickoff to Rebuild 2007.

NRCA holds Facilitators Workshop

NRCA held its first Facilitators Workshop Jan. 30-31 in Chicago. A group of 22 roofing industry professionals met to develop their skills and enhance their abilities to teach NRCA classes.

The Facilitators Workshop focuses on teaching attendees basic adult-learning principles and professional presentation skills, as well as how to deliver educational programs using an NRCA instructors guide and apply program facilitation skills in training situations.

Roofing professionals who complete the Facilitators Workshop can volunteer to help facilitate NRCA educational and training programs. The invitation-only workshop will be held once per year.
