What is your position within your company?
I am vice president of Academy Roofing Inc., Aurora, Colo.
What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part?
Installing our first DOW POWERHOUSE™ Solar Shingle job. Because the product
was new to our company, we spent a lot of time working with the homeowner, utility
company and Dow employees to bring the job to successful completion.
Why did you become a roofing contractor?
I became a roofing contractor kicking and screaming. My husband, Curt, and I both
worked for a roofing contractor. One day, Curt came home and said he wanted to start
his own roofing business. I wasn't as enthusiastic as he was, but we did it anyway.
What is your roofing industry involvement?
I serve on the National Roofing Legal Resource Center's board of directors, and
I'm a member of NRCA's Government Relations Committee.
Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
My husband was working as a supervisor for a roofing contractor who asked whether
I would be interested in an administrative position in the company.
What was your first roofing experience?
Installing rolled roofing on a barn
What are your favorite items on your desk?
Pictures of my family and our employees' children
What three condiments always are in your fridge?
Ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise
If you had a time machine, would you go to the future or the past? Why?
I would travel to the past, specifically to pioneer times when the U.S. was settled.
I truly am in awe of how the women managed then.
What is your fondest childhood memory?
Going anywhere with my 11 brothers and sisters always was an adventure.

Sitting in traffic

Anywhere we can go with our three children and eight grandchildren, but I am partial
to Hawaii!
What are the most challenging aspects of your job?
Risk and insurance issues, hiring and keeping quality employees, and staying abreast
of government regulations
What's the most exciting/adventurous thing you've done?
A memorable dune buggy excursion in Mexico

People would be surprised to know …
I grew up on a farm where we milked cows, raised chickens and regularly got bucked
off horses.
What animal would you say best matches your personality?
A giraffe—I like to know everything that's going on around me.
