What is your position within your company?
I am chief operating officer of Paradigm Partners, Cambridge, Mass.

What is the most unusual roofing project you've performed?
I spearheaded a specialized and cost-effective turnkey approach for Harvard University's Rowland Institute in Cambridge. Recycling the original roofing materials was the first consideration. The manufacturer agreed to recycle the old membrane at no cost, eliminating disposal and preparing the material for reuse. The old insulation was stacked and sent to a recycling center, diverting it from the landfill. The vegetative roof system's soil layer was engineered for maximum absorption of up to 65 percent. The combination of a vegetative roof system with an ecological roofing solution provided a highly sustainable solution for greening the rooftop.

Why did you become a part of the roofing industry?
I explored many industries but decided a career as a roofing professional would suit more of my interests in engineering and construction.

What was your first roofing experience?
When I was 16 years old, I drove my family roofing company's shop truck, delivering materials to job sites.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I knew I didn't want to be a roofing contractor and thought I wanted to be a lawyer.
