WHAT IS YOUR POSITION WITHIN YOUR COMPANY? I am manager of operations for Roof Check Inc., Longmont, Colo.
WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL PROJECT OF WHICH YOU HAVE BEEN A PART? When I was 18 years old, I helped our guys tear off a foam roof system in 90-degree weather. My ears got so sunburned they were crispy!
WHY DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED IN THE ROOFING INDUSTRY? My parents started Roof Check in 1984, and I was brought to job sites from a young age. When I was in college, my husband and I had our first child, our daughter, Maylei, and I started doing estimating work and helping my mom with accounting. Eventually, I was estimating and managing a project base of $1 million in sales per month. Now, I manage our office and residential production team. I love what I do, what my parents have done, and what this industry has done for my family and so many others.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ROOFING EXPERIENCE? One of my earliest memories of roofing was bringing lunch to my dad at a job site in Boulder, Colo. He was working on a large cathedral, and I remember looking up at him from the church steps across the street. I love my parents to the moon, and I love being able to still work with them.
WHAT IS YOUR ROOFING INDUSTRY INVOLVEMENT? I keep up with new technology in our industry, and I love seeing new products thrive. I am a member of National Women in Roofing and currently am enrolled in NRCA University’s Future Executives Institute. I am excited to continue my education in the industry.
WHAT SONGS ARE YOU LISTENING TO OVER AND OVER? I still love Blink-182, and Green Day is my go-to music for a good day.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? A lifeguard at the YMCA during high school.
PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ... I’m a moto mom—all three of my kids have ridden or raced dirt bikes since the age of 4. My husband and our kids love any day spent on two wheels together.
WHAT QUALITIES DO YOU MOST ADMIRE IN A PERSON? Honesty and drive—I love people who are direct and driven.
WHAT’S THE MOST EXCITING/ADVENTUROUS THING YOU’VE DONE? Probably entering a moms’ pit bike race. With crazy moms on pit bikes, all I can say is I survived.
WHAT THREE CONDIMENTS ARE IN YOUR FRIDGE? Ketchup, hot sauce and Olive Garden Italian dressing (my son's favorite).
MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING IN THE ROOFING INDUSTRY IS ... There is something new and exciting every day. It’s never boring, and there always is a new obstacle to overcome.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ROOFING MATERIAL TO WORK WITH? WHY? Concrete tile. I know my tile because I have estimated and managed hundreds of tile projects since I was 20 years old.
BIG CITY OR SMALL TOWN? I love the space and freedom of a small town in the countryside.
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE? Being a mother and watching my kids excel and watching my family’s business grow. We work hard every day to make sure the business succeeds so we can provide a great life for our family.
