What is your position within your company?
I am vice president of Diamond Roofing, Manhattan, Kan.

People would be surprised to know …
I live in Manhattan, Kan., where people bleed Kansas State University purple, but I graduated from the University of Kansas so I'm a huge Jayhawks basketball fan. I do bleed purple, but only by way of mixing crimson and blue!

What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part?
On May 4, 2007, an EF5 tornado devastated rural Greensburg, Kan., destroying 95 percent of the town. Faced with a massive cleanup project, Greensburg residents rebuilt their town using sustainable materials to serve as a model of green living. To support the town's initiative, I collaborated with local building owners and architects to help them incorporate reflective "cool" roofs, vegetative roof systems and photovoltaic roof systems into their rebuilding designs. The town now is classified as having one of the highest per capita LEED-certified buildings in the U.S.

Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
My parents were heavily involved in the roofing industry, so I naturally followed their lead. Through my roofing industry involvement, I have learned great leaders are compelled to enrich the lives of others and build better organizations.

What was your first roofing experience?
My first formal introduction to roofing happened while I was in high school when I worked as a summer intern for the office administrator at my family's company.

What is your favorite food?
There's nothing better than a medium-rare Kansas City strip steak!

What songs are you listening to over and over?
As the proud mother of three children, the songs I listen to revolve around their selections. Between pump-you-up soccer music and competitive dancing tracks, I'd say we listen to "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC, "When Will My Life Begin" from the Disney movie "Tangled" and "Afro Circus" from the movie "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" the most.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
I'd love to take my family back to Italy! Between the friendly people, cuisine, cathedrals, art museums and gelato, I feel like I must have been Italian in a former life.

What's the most exciting/adventurous thing you've done?
While studying abroad in college, I backpacked through Europe and the Middle East for an entire semester. When you literally live out of a bag as you move from one city to the next, you learn a lot about yourself and other cultures. That exciting adventure molded me into the person I am today!

My favorite part about working in the roofing industry is …
Meeting and networking with other professionals in the industry!

What was your first job?
It's hard to admit, but my first job was at the Long-Branch Saloon, Dodge City, Kan., as a can-can dancer in Miss Kitty Russell's Variety Show!

What is your favorite stress reliever?
When I get to the office every morning, I spend five minutes in my car just listening to music and drinking coffee. It helps me transition from being a rushed mother getting three kids ready for school to a businesswoman ready for the day's activities.

What is your roofing industry involvement?
I currently have the honor of serving my second term on NRCA's board of directors and am a Class 6 graduate of NRCA's Future Executives Institute. I also recently was appointed to serve as secretary of the Roof Integrated Solar Energy™ board of directors. In addition, my husband and I support ROOFPAC as Political Insiders Council members, and Diamond Roofing recently joined The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress at the Governor level.

Big city or small town?
My family and I absolutely love traveling to Chicago, but I'd have to say I'm a small-town girl. There is nothing more beautiful than sunsets in the Flint Hills!
