What is your position within your company?
I am estimator for AAA Roofing Co. Inc., Indianapolis.
What is the most unusual roofing project of which you have been a part?
My company recently rebuilt the steeple on St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Indianapolis, which is the
church I attended growing up. The steeple was knocked down during a storm, and we rebuilt it from scratch using the
original blueprints and clad it in 20-ounce copper.
Why did you become involved in the roofing industry?
I am a fourth-generation roofing professional. This industry has been incredible for my family since my
great-grandfather founded AAA Roofing in 1923. I originally attended college to pursue a medical degree while also
working for the company. I decided I didn't like the medical field that much, but I did like making money and working
with my hands, so I finished college with a business degree and am continuing my family's legacy in the industry.
What was your first roofing experience?
My first roofing experience was tearing cedar shakes off a mansard. I thought I would be able to outwork the old men
I was working with—I was wrong.
What quality do you most admire in a person?
Integrity
What is your roofing industry involvement?
I am a recent graduate of NRCA University's Future Executives Institute—Class 7, and I am a board member of the
Indiana Roofing Contractors Association.
What was your first job?
I worked in our shop sorting screws, sweeping lots, cleaning toilets and loading trucks.
What's the most exciting/adventurous thing you've done?
Learning to fly an airplane
People would be surprised to know
I am an instrument-rated pilot.
What do you consider your most rewarding experience?
Being a father to my children.
What's your favorite roofing material to work with? Why?
Built-up roof systems—we started installing them almost 100 years ago and still install them. It takes
considerable skill and effort to properly install built-up roof systems, but when they are done right, they're the
best roofs you can buy for the money.
What is your favorite stress reliever?
Flying—it's the one time I can unplug and focus my entire attention on the task at hand. It's incredibly
therapeutic.
Big city or small town?
Small town
What song are you listening to over and over?
"To Be With You Again" by The SteelDrivers
If you had a time machine, would you go to the future or the past? Why?
I would go to the past because I would love to see what our company looked like when it started 95 years ago.
My favorite part about working in the roofing industry is
The people—you will not find better people than the people that make up this industry.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An archaeologist—I thought I was going to be Indiana Jones.
What is the most high-tech item in your house?
My iPad
