In 2013, Durham, N.C.-based BuildSense Inc., a provider of architectural and construction services, renovated a 1940s masonry warehouse in Lewisville, Texas, into an energy-efficient office facility to reflect the company's commitment to sustainability.
The former one-story farm equipment and automobile repair building was converted into a two-story, energy-efficient office building using Metl-Span's insulated standing-seam 24-gauge metal panels in Polar White on the rooftop to reflect sunlight and serve as a platform to attach photovoltaic panels. On the inside, insulated standing-seam 26-gauge metal panels in Snow White serve as a reflective ceiling above open web steel joists, making electrical lighting inside more efficient.
The updated facility was designed to maintain a warehouse aesthetic to blend in with surrounding buildings while achieving LEED® Platinum certification.
