Known for its pinot noirs, Williams Selyem Winery, Healdsburg, Calif., is the first newly constructed winery in Sonoma County in nearly a decade. Winery owner John Dyson involved Venezuelan architect Alex Ceppi, D.arc Group LLC, Pelham, N.Y., to create a design recognizing the winery's natural and minimalist philosophy while demonstrating Sonoma's evolving modernization process.
The building is capped in cantilevering wood with a barrel-vaulted structure to represent a deconstructed wine barrel. About 7,700 RHEINZINK® America Inc. stepped titanium-zinc panels in prePATINA blue-grey fabricated by MetalTech-USA, Peachtree City, Ga., and installed by Architectural Metal Inc., Hopland, Calif., were used to create the barrel-vault roof design. The building's sides incorporate local redwood and masonry-clad programmatic volumes.
