Completion of a new roof system on Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver, British Columbia, marks the end of a massive four-phase, 22-year renovation.
Built in 1894 with a cedar shake roof, Christ Church Cathedral was Vancouver's first church. During the years, various cathedral additions and modifications were undertaken, but none contributed to the historical structure's long-term sustainability.
In 1995, a formal plan was put in place to make the cathedral structurally sound and meet seismic stabilization requirements. The final renovation stage was achieved this year when TEK Roofing Ltd., Vancouver, installed 12,000 square feet of hand-formed prePATINA blue-grey RHEINZINK® zinc panels using a batten-seam profile.
