Founded in 1822, Oak Hill Cemetery is located in the Historic District of Pontiac, Mich., and is a place of remarkable natural and artistic beauty. The cemetery is the resting place for hundreds of Revolutionary War and Civil War veterans and recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
In 2013, the cemetery's 155-year-old mausoleum collapsed. Benson's Building Supply, Pontiac, provided labor and materials to rebuild the structure and contacted Butcher and Butcher Construction, Harbor Springs, Mich., to help with the roof system installation.
Butcher and Butcher Construction not only provided labor, but it also supplied the slate for the historic restoration. Workers from Butcher and Butcher Construction's steep-slope roofing division worked through brutal winter conditions to restore the mausoleum's slate roof system, which was completed in December 2014.
