Founded in 1856, the Texas School for the Deaf is the oldest public school in Texas. Its educational philosophy is grounded in the belief that all children who are deaf or hard of hearing deserve a quality education.

In April 2015, the school's built-in copper gutter systems on 10 campus buildings were refinished by Tecta America Austin LLC, Pflugerville, Texas. Workers cleaned, sanded and primed the copper gutters, and in some areas, wood gutters were discovered covered with EPDM. The EPDM membrane was removed, and the wood underneath was repaired, sanded and prepped.

Workers then applied more than 1 mile of self-adhering Siplast® Paradiene 20 SA polymer-modified bitumen membrane with Siplast Parapro Flashing Resin to the gutter systems. Damaged collector heads and downspouts also were replaced, and clean-out caps were installed on undamaged downspouts.

In November 2015, Tecta America Austin completed the massive gutter system project that will help contribute to a safe environment for the more than 500 students attending the school.
