Located at 622 N. Seventh St. in the Mercantile Exchange neighborhood of downtown St. Louis, a former Dillard's Inc. department store recently was renovated to become the city's first "green" energy high-rise.
Now called The Laurel Luxury Apartments, the building features a 25-kilowatt photovoltaic (PV) panel system installed by Kirberg Co., St. Louis. More than 180 flexible PV panels were installed to help offset the building's common area lighting needs.
Considered a St. Louis architectural and historic landmark, the newly renovated building received a Most Enhanced award from Landmarks Association of St. Louis Inc. in 2012.
