In partnership with the New Orleans chapter of Rebuilding Together,® NRCA's national charitable organization, NRCA and Hanley Wood LLC, Washington, D.C., held their first Community Service Day Feb. 21 during the 2010 International Roofing Expo® in New Orleans. The event was sponsored by Sika Sarnafil, Canton, Mass. Seventy-seven volunteers participated in the event, repairing five homes that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Led by Rebuilding Together New Orleans House Leaders Gabe Sneller and Josh Visnaw, NRCA member and staff volunteers refurbished the exterior of this 65-year-old home of Wilbert Parker in New Orleans' Holly Grove neighborhood. Parker is a 77-year-old former welder. He grew up in the Holly Grove neighborhood where 100 percent of the homes were damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
