The University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kan., is the region's leading academic medical center and is affiliated with The University of Kansas School of Medicine. The hospital provides a full range of care and consistently earns national recognition for outstanding quality and safety. Ten of its specialties rank on U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals list. The hospital is the only nationally verified Level 1 Trauma Center in the region, and its burn center is the only adult burn center in greater Kansas City to be accredited by the American Burn Association.
During 2012, the hospital treated 1,986 trauma patients, some of whom arrived via helicopter. The hospital currently has three helipads atop its building. The third and most recent helipad was constructed in 2012 and is designed to handle a higher weight capacity, up to 30,000 pounds, allowing for military helicopters and the U.S. president.
The 10,200-square-foot roof system below the helipad was completed by Kirberg Co., St. Louis. Kirberg used Carlisle SynTec's FleeceBACK® EPDM installed with Fast 100 Adhesive.
The hospital's new helipad will provide a clearly marked hard surface for helicopters to land, making it faster and easier to get patients into the emergency room.
