The Garland Co. is recognized
The Garland Co. Inc.,® Cleveland, has received three regional awards: the NEO Success Award, Leading EDGE Award and NorthCoast 99 Legacy Award.
The NEO Success Award is sponsored by Inside Business and acknowledges corporate growth of revenue and employment opportunities during three consecutive years. This is the second year The Garland Co. has received the award.
Sponsored annually by Crain's Cleveland Business, the Leading EDGE Award honors middle-market companies in northeast Ohio that have annual sales revenues of $750 million or less and sell their goods and services outside the region. This is the third year The Garland Co. has received the award.
The Employers Resource Council annually presents The NorthCoast 99 Legacy Award to the top 99 places to work in northeast Ohio. The Garland Co. was one of five regional companies to receive the honor, which is bestowed based on such criteria as compensation and benefits, health and safety, training and education, diversity, communication, and community service and involvement.
AIA approves Sika Sarnafil courses
Green Roof Education and The Facts About PVC and the Environmenttwo continuing-education courses offered by Canton, Mass.-based Sika Sarnafilhave been approved by The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and are certified to fulfill AIA's Sustainable Design continuing-education requirements.
Green Roof Education addresses the benefits of installing a green roof system, the importance of waterproofing, and how to obtain points toward Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. The Facts About PVC and the Environment provides an overview of PVC, including its possible environmental burden, whether it can be recycled and how it behaves during fires.
"Selecting roofing and waterproofing systems that will meet sustainability goals is an important component of sustainable construction," says Brian J. Whelan, Sika Sarnafil's senior vice president. "We are pleased to be able to offer AIA members critical information on selecting roofing and waterproofing systems that will help them meet their sustainability goals of energy efficiency, environmentally preferable products, greenhouse gas reduction and waste reduction while helping them achieve their required continuing-education credits in Sustainable Design."
Englert forms partnerships
Englert Inc., Perth Amboy, N.J., has become an authorized distributor of products manufactured by Brentwood, N.H.-based Dawn Solar Systems Inc.
Dawn Solar Systems develops and manufactures solar thermal systems for residential, commercial, institutional and industrial structures. Englert will install and service the systems, which are available for new roof and reroofing applications. Distribution will be available throughout North America.
"We look forward to working with Dawn Solar Systems as a North American distributor," says Tom Dyszkiewicz, Englert's senior vice president for business development. "Today's alliance formalizes a three-year relationship that has already resulted in the most successful installations of integrated solar roofing systems in North America. Combining Dawn Solar Systems' technology expertise and Englert's proven reputation for service ensures architects and builders that their return on investment in solar will be swift and solid."
In addition, Englert will distribute products manufactured by Colorado Springs, Colo.-based S-5!, a metal roofing attachment solutions manufacturer.
The agreement calls for Englert to market and supply S-5! products, including its high-tensile-strength aluminum clamps for attaching photovoltaic crystalline panels, rooftop lighting, signage, HVAC units, walkways and other attachments to metal roofing seams and profiles.
"We are delighted to be allied with S-5!, the leader in providing clamps and accessories for the standing-seam market," Dyszkiewicz says. "S-5!'s snow-retention products give Englert's customers new and effective ways to successfully address the age-old issue of rooftop snow accumulation that can pose significant dangers to property and life."
Dow Building Solutions announces sales approach
Dow Building Solutions, Midland, Mich., has announced it is realigning its commercial market customer sales and technical support structure to better reflect how customers at different points in the supply chain access roof, wall and foundation systems for commercial building applications. Dow Building Solutions also announced it will expand supply capability for Dow Roofing Systems' wide-sheet TIEMPO™+ 2000 TPO roof membrane, which was introduced earlier this year.
Commercial architects, specifiers, design builders, building owners and consultants will be served by Dow Building Solutions technical experts. Roofing contractors and distributors will be served by Dow Building Solutions roofing channel managers who will focus on demand creation, supply logistics, service and support.
"Aligning our commercial sales and technical teams to reflect how our customers access our products and services is just good business sense," says Mike McGaugh, Dow Building Solutions North America's general manager. "Now, if an architect or building owner wants to increase energy efficiency or lower installation costs, they have a single Dow point of contact who can help them choose the right combination of solutions."

GRHC launches program in Canada
Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) launched its Canadian Green Roof Professional (GRP) Accreditation program Oct. 19. For the first time in Canada, candidates had the opportunity to register for and complete GRHC's GRP Accreditation Exam.
The exam addresses five concentration areas: pre-design, design, contract management, quality assurance and support, and maintenance. GRP accreditation is designed to verify the designated GRP has attained a level of interdisciplinary knowledge needed for green roof system design, installation and maintenance.

Bradco Supply acquires company
Bradco Supply Corp., Avenel, N.J., has acquired Denver-based Premier Supply Co.; Premier Supply will retain its name.
