Zamrzla honored by playhouse
Johnny Zamrzla, owner of Palmdale, Calif.-based Western Pacific Roofing Corp., received the Medici Award from the Palmdale Playhouse, Calif., for his involvement with the playhouse and dedication to the performing arts. The award, which is named after the Florentine, Italy based Medici family members who were considered the greatest patrons of the performing arts, was awarded to Zamrzla during a reception commemorating the playhouse's ninth season.
"I was surprised and humbly appreciative of the fact that I was selected," Zamrzla says. "[My wife, Pam, and I] have been involved in a number of community events. I think the playhouse has lots of events that go on yearly that certainly draw on the community."

Metalworks makessales agreement
NRCA member Metalworks LC, Moon Township, Pa., has entered into a distribution agreement with EcoBuild LLC, Boulder, Colo. According to the agreement's terms, EcoBuild will distribute Metalworks' metal roof shingles in Colorado and southern Wyoming.
Rohm & Haas produces coatings
Spring House, Pa.-based NRCA member Rohm & Haas Co. has been granted a license by Philadelphia-based ATOFINA Chemicals Inc. to produce powder coatings using ATOFINA Chemicals' Kynar 500 PC PVDF resin. Rohm & Haas will market the powder coatings under the Kynar 500 PC trademark.
IKO Manufacturing expands business
IKO Manufacturing Inc., Chicago, has purchased A.W. Andernach Gmbh, Bonn, Germany. A.W. Andernach manufactures modified bitumen roof membranes and polystyrene insulation, as well as other materials. According to IKO Manufacturing representatives, A.W. Andernach will continue operating under its name and no employee or facility changes will occur.
Metalforming signs agreements
Peachtree City, Ga.-based NRCA member Metalforming Inc. has signed an agreement with MBCI, Houston, to allow customers who purchase Metalforming's Schlebach Quadro FLX portable rollformer to gain the technology, credentials and marketing tools for MBCI panel profiles. The profiles include SSR vertical leg panels of BattenLok, Curved BattenLok, Lokseam and SuperLock, as well as small and high batten versions of the Craftsman Series. Licensees also can access proprietary testing and sell MBCI's Single Source Warranties for the profiles.
In other news, Metalforming has given up its rights to distribute Wermelskirchen, Germany-based FASTI-WERK, Carl Aug. Fastenrath Gmbh & Co. KG's line of FASTI sheet-metal machinery. Schaumburg, Ill.-based International Technologies Inc. now is the exclusive North American distributor of the machinery. To ensure a smooth transition, Wolf Groeber, Metalforming's FASTI service technician, has joined International Technologies.
Manufacturer representative dies
Andrew Edward Bernardi, principal with A.E. Bernardi Associates Inc., St. Charles, Ill., recently passed away. Bernardi was 79.
Bernardi was a manufacturer's representative for several roofing manufacturers, including Marathon Roofing Products Inc., Buffalo, N.Y. During NRCA's 115th Annual Convention and Exhibit in San Antonio in 2002, Bernardi received recognition from NRCA for attending 39 consecutive NRCA conventions.
Bernardi is survived by his daughter, Katherine; son-in-law, Robert Hope; grandson, William Hope; and brother, Leo.
RHEINZINK America opens locations
RHEINZINK America Inc., Cambridge, Mass., has opened regional technical sales offices in Chicago and Sacramento, Calif. Technical sales managers Steve Shull and Gary McKee are based out of Chicago and Sacramento, respectively. The company also opened a national training center in Rochester, Minn., in which Kevin Wohlert, RHEINZINK America's applications training manager, is based.

NRLRC holds annual seminar
The National Roofing Legal Resource Center (NRLRC) held its annual conference, Roofing Issues: Decks to Dockets, Sept. 11-13 in Santa Barbara, Calif. The seminar focused on construction contract documents, reroofing issues, insurance, prevailing-wage requirements and construction-defect claims, among other topics.
