Roofing contractor passes away
Robert P. Petrick, founder of Ridgeworth Roofing Co., Bridgeview, Ill., passed away. Petrick was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and founder of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus' Archbishop Quigley Council. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Rodney, Roger and Brian; grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Jennifer, Kevin, Ryan, Ashley, Justin and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Kelsey and Joshua; and sister Arlene. He is preceded in death by his sister Patricia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Rita of Cascia High School Advancement Office, 7740 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60620.

Roxul® announces expansion
Roxul Inc., Milton, Ontario, has announced it will expand its North American operations and build its first U.S.-based manufacturing facility. The plant will be located in Marshall County, Miss., about 31 miles from Memphis, Tenn.
The 600,000-square-foot facility's construction will begin later this year and production will begin in 2014. The facility will employ about 150 people.
Johns Manville celebrates facility opening
Johns Manville, Denver, held a dedication ceremony in June to celebrate the opening of its single-ply membrane manufacturing facility in Milan, Ohio. The facility will manufacture EPDM roofing products. It is Johns Manville's third manufacturing operation in Ohio.
GAF wins Telly Awards
GAF, Wayne, N.J., has won two 2012 Telly Awards for its commercial titled "Scary Experience." GAF received the silver award in the Editing category for a TV and multimarket commercial and a bronze award in the Miscellaneous category for a TV and multimarket commercial.
The Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs; video and film productions; and online commercials, video and films.
Additionally, GAF has received a Women's Choice Award for its roofing products from WomenCertified.® WomenCertified conducted a survey among its customers and found nine out of 10 of its customers would highly recommend GAF to others.
WomenCertified serves as a referral source for businesses and brands women would recommend. Brands with high recommendation scores receive the Women's Choice Award.
As part of the GAF qualifying survey, WomenCertified surveyed more than 100 roofing contractors who verified GAF met or exceeded their female customers' expectations. These standards were confirmed through a WomenCertified survey with GAF scoring excellent in several areas, including the likelihood female consumers would recommend GAF products to their families and friends. More than 96 percent of contractors polled said they would recommend GAF to female customers as well as their families and friends. WomenCertified determined GAF met the high-quality standards and expectations set by women, including excellent customer service, high level of product satisfaction and other aspects women value and trust in a brand.

ABC Supply employees receive awards
Two employees of ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., received 2011 Ken Hendricks Awards. Reggie Crichton, manager of ABC Supply's Kahului, Hawaii, branch, and Dale Schultz, sales representative for ABC Supply's Tulsa, Okla., branch received the awards at ABC Supply's annual Founders' Celebration event held June 21.
The Ken Hendricks Award was created to honor the memory of Ken Hendricks, ABC Supply's co-founder, and to highlight the values he championed that have driven the company since its establishment in 1982.
Crichton began working at ABC Supply in 1996. He volunteers for affordable housing initiatives, assists the local Boy Scouts of America and the Maui Fire Department, distributes food to needy families and, with the Kahului branch team, regularly participates in Habitat for Humanity® and other community service projects.
Schultz has worked for ABC Supply for 20 years. He is a volunteer for Special Olympics, a church deacon and leader of his church's youth group.
Additionally, ABC Supply and NRCA member Petersen Aluminum Corp., Elk Grove Village, Ill., have announced a strategic marketing partnership with 44 ABC Supply branches in Florida. ABC Supply will promote Petersen Aluminum products, and many of the ABC Supply Florida locations will stock PAC-CLAD painted aluminum and steel flat sheets and coil.
Petersen Aluminum's Florida sales staff will work closely with ABC Supply personnel to assist the company's customers with selecting proper material and profiles to meet job-specific requirements.
SRS Acquisition opens new location
SRS Acquisition Corp., McKinney, Texas, has opened a new location in Huntsville, Ala., under the SRS Roofing Supply name. The location will carry a full line of residential and commercial roofing products and focus on servicing the area's premier roofing contractors, remodeling contractors and home builders. The location will service northern Alabama, as well as northern Mississippi and south central Tennessee.

ARMA creates educational video
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has created its first educational video promoting the benefits of asphalt-based roof systems. The video, "Why Asphalt Roofing?," is intended for commercial and residential audiences and aims to educate viewers about asphalt-based roof systems. ASTM International presents award
ASTM International's Committee D08 on Roofing and Waterproofing has presented James C. Strong, associate principal at Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates Inc., Emeryville, Calif., with the Award of Merit and title of fellow. The Award of Merit is ASTM International's highest organizational recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
Strong has been a member of ASTM International since 1995. He is a vice chairman of Subcommittee D08.22 on Waterproofing and Dampproofing Systems and a member of Committee C24 on Building Seals and Sealants.
NSA celebrates anniversary
The National Slate Association (NSA) will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its reorganization Sept. 21-23 in Slate Valley in Granville, N.Y. Featured events will include a quarry tour, mill tour, reception at the Slate Valley Museum in Granville and a formal banquet. More information is available at www.slateassociation.org.
RoofPoint projects announced
The Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing and the RoofPoint™ program have announced the first RoofPoint Registered Projects. About 100 projects were submitted during the first pilot program from 22 manufacturers, roofing contractors and design firms in North America.
RoofPoint is a voluntary, consensus-based green rating system developed by the center to provide a means for roofing contractors, building owners and designers to select roof systems based on long-term energy and environmental benefits.
The inaugural class of RoofPoint projects includes roof systems from 27 states, the District of Columbia, Canada and Mexico.
The center now is accepting applications for its 2012 RoofPoint Excellence in Design Award. This year's design award winners will be projects that best exemplify RoofPoint's mission and meet required criteria.
The deadline for entries is Sept. 28. Center and NRCA members and industry stakeholders may apply by completing a RoofPoint application form. Eligible roof systems must have been installed after Jan. 1, 2011. More information about the award and RoofPoint is available at www.roofpoint.org.

Gold Circle Awards program is accepting nominations
NRCA is accepting nominations for its 2013 Gold Circle Awards program, which recognizes NRCA members for their significant contributions to the roofing industry.
Gold Circle Awards categories include outstanding workmanship—low-slope; outstanding workmanship—steep-slope; innovative solutions—new construction; innovative solutions—reroofing; service to the community; and service to the industry.
Additionally, the Gold Circle Safety Award will be presented to an accident-free project where public protection challenges demanded creative safety solutions, challenging safety procedures and/or extensive involvement of multiple trades.
Unique roofing-related projects, programs and services completed between June 1, 2010, and May 31, 2012, are eligible for the program. Entries must be postmarked by Sept. 21. Gold Circle Awards winners will be honored during NRCA's 126th Annual Convention Feb. 3-7, 2013, in San Antonio.

Scholarships are available
The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress is accepting applications for its 2013-14 Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program. The program, administered by Scholarship Management Services,® a division of Scholarship America,® is available to assist NRCA contractor and supplier member employees and their families.
Employees and their families who plan to pursue post-secondary education in college and vocational programs are eligible for the merit-based scholarships. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic record; potential to succeed; leadership and participation in school and community activities; honors; work experience; a statement of education and career goals; and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.
Scholarship recipients will receive funding for full-time study at an accredited post-secondary institution of the student's choice. Each scholarship recipient will receive a $5,000 award, renewable for up to three years of undergraduate study or until a bachelor's degree is earned. Recipients must renew annually and maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).
Applications are available online and must be completed and mailed along with a current and complete official transcript to Scholarship Management Services. Entries should be postmarked no later than Jan. 31, 2013.

MVP applications are available
The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress is accepting applications for its 2012-13 Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards program, which is open to employees of roofing contracting, distributor and supplier firms.
The program formally recognizes employees who, under normal circumstances, may not be publicly recognized for their efforts or eligible to participate in company recognition or incentive programs. Winners are chosen based on their significant contributions to one or more of the following areas: outstanding on-the-job performance; on-the-job safety performance; contributions to a team effort; community service and volunteerism; and other noteworthy contributions and activities. Up to 10 roofing workers will receive the recognition.
MVP winners will receive two complimentary airfares and two nights' hotel accommodations during NRCA's 126th Annual Convention Feb. 3-7, 2013, in San Antonio; one complimentary conference registration and exhibit hall pass to the 2013 International Roofing Expo®; two complimentary tickets to NRCA's Cocktail and Awards Reception; and a $100 American Express gift card. Additionally, one MVP winner will be chosen to be Professional Roofing's Best of the Best, an award co-sponsored by OMG Roofing Products Inc., Agawam, Mass., and will be featured in an article in Professional Roofing.
Self-nominations will not be accepted. Each participating firm must prepare and submit an official entry form along with supporting information.
