MFM Building Products hires representative
SMS Group LLC, Richmond, Va., will represent Coshocton, Ohio-based MFM Building Products' full product line in the Carolinas.
SMS Group services one-step roofing, siding and window wholesale distributors and two-step building material distributors and co-op affiliated professional and lumber yards.
Brad Dunn, partner at SMS Group, will represent MFM Building Products in South Carolina, excluding Myrtle Beach, and western North Carolina. Scott Hobbs, partner at SMS Group, will service Myrtle Beach and North Carolina east of Burlington.
ATAS International presents sales award
ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa., has announced recipients of its annual Malan S. Parker Award, which recognizes ATAS International's top sales team for the year. The recipients are Ernie Kortvely, territory manager for Washington, D.C.; Maryland; Delaware; and a region of New Jersey; and Lynn Benninghoff, customer service representative for Washington, D.C.; Maryland; Delaware; North Carolina; South Carolina; Virginia; and regions of New Jersey and West Virginia.
Kortvely and Benninghoff were chosen for overall sales growth within their territories, profitability and adherence to corporate goals and objectives.
Sika Sarnafil opens distribution center
Sika Sarnafil, Canton, Mass., has opened a 50,000-square-foot distribution center in Kansas City, Mo., that will improve product supply to the company's customers in the central U.S.
The distribution center is expected to shorten delivery times and decrease transportation costs for Sika Sarnafil applicator customers. For some customers, shipping times and transportation costs could be reduced up to 50 percent.
The distribution center also provides environmental benefits. Through the coordinated use of trains and trucks, less diesel fuel is burned to transport the products.
Sika Sarnafil also has distribution centers in Canton and Salt Lake City.
Additionally, Sika Sarnafil has changed coverage rates for its Sarnacol 2121 adhesive. A change in Sarnacol 2121's application method has improved coverage rates up to 50 percent. The change offers material savings, reduced labor costs, excellent adhesion strength and an improved environmental profile through reduced volatile organic compounds that allow the adhesive to meet strict air emissions standards throughout the U.S.
Quest Construction Products acquires coatings business
Quest Construction Products, Phoenix, has acquired Vancouver, Canada-based Integrated Paving Concepts' (IPC's) coatings business.
Founded in 1992, IPC specializes in decorative stamped asphalt and asphalt coating technology, facilitating innovative streetscape and hardscape designs.
GAF Materials sponsors recycling website
GAF Materials Corp., Wayne, N.J., has made a multiyear commitment to sponsor the Find-A-Recycler section of www.shinglerecycling.org, the leading resource for information about recycling asphalt shingles.
The website's Find-A-Recycler section is a state-by-state database of locations where roofing contractors can recycle torn-off shingles along with technical information to encourage recycling. The sponsorship is expected to make the database, which already includes more than 150 listings nationwide, more searchable and provide for more frequent updates.
Lapolla Industries SPF receives EU Approval
Lapolla Industries Inc., Houston, has achieved European Technical Approval (ETA) and CE Marking for its low-density open-cell spray foam insulation.
An ETA for a construction project is a technical assessment of the project's fitness for an intended use. ETAs allow manufacturers to place CE Marking on their products within the European market. By placing CE Marking on a product, a manufacturer is declaring compliance with all of the legal requirements to achieve CE Marking, ensuring validity for the product to be sold in the European Economic Area.

Tecta Solar opens East Coast office
Skokie, Ill.-based Tecta America Corp.'s solar division, Tecta Solar, has opened an office in Fort Washington, Pa., to provide its team with a local facility for its solar development, finance and engineering operations.
Increasing demand for solar technology from Tecta America's East Coast clients prompted three solar hires in the region. The expanded team will provide regional and national clients with expertise for solar solutions based on their goals, as well as full capture of local and federal incentives.
Nations Roof of New York receives certification
Nations Roof of New York LLC, Yonkers,has received national certification as a Women's Business Enterprise by the Women Presidents' Educational Organization—N.Y., a regional certifying partner of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
WBENC's national standard of certification includes an in-depth review of the business and a site inspection. The certification process confirms the business is at least 51 percent owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.
By including women-owned businesses among their vendors, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier/vendor diversity programs.

ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., presented three ABC Supply associates with the Ken Hendricks Award during the company's annual Founders' Celebration June 16. The Ken Hendricks Award honors the memory of ABC Supply co-founder Ken Hendricks and highlights the values he championed that have guided ABC Supply since its establishment in 1982.
The award recipients are Don Hamby, branch manager, Lake Worth, Fla.; Jim Gann, district manager for Alabama and Tennessee; and Jeff Ploch, district manager for Wisconsin.
RoofConnect® rebrands itself
RoofConnect, Sheridan, Ark., has rebranded itself to strengthen and modernize how the company represents its services.
The original blue flag on RoofConnect's old logo now is three blue flags, which represent RoofConnect contractors, RoofConnect clients and RoofConnect services. The company's new marketing initiatives include an overhaul of its literature; sales and marketing aides; and website, www.roofconnect.com.
"A renewed marketing presence will springboard RoofConnect to the next level," says David Workman, RoofConnect's president and chief executive officer. NRCA offers PV class
NRCA's one-day class, Photovoltaic Roof Systems: Energizing Your Business, will be held Oct. 13 in Denver.
Class participants will learn about the terminology, benefits, design considerations, construction details, electrical considerations, code compliance, and business and legal issues associated with photovoltaic (PV) roof systems. Participants also will have the opportunity to interact with technical experts, including Jim Kirby, NRCA's associate executive director of technical communications, and Kris Sutton, an industry expert specializing in environmental and PV design and instruction.
Class participants will receive complimentary copies of NRCA's Guidelines for Roof-mounted Photovoltaic System Installations and Building Owners Guide to Roof-mounted Photovoltaic Systems, which will serve as the program's technical basis.

RISE™ certifies solar professionals
Roof Integrated Solar Energy™ (RISE) Inc. has announced its newest Certified Solar Roofing Professionals™ (CSRPs™). The CSRP designation is a voluntary certification for professionals who plan and oversee the installation of roof-mounted photovoltaic (PV) systems. The credential evaluates whether candidates have the underlying knowledge required to successfully install roof-mounted PV systems.
RISE's board of directors has conferred the CSRP designation on the following individuals for meeting established eligibility criteria, passing an examination and agreeing to develop themselves professionally to remain current with changes in the field. The CSRP designation applies only to the individuals named; companies are not certified.
The following CSRPs passed a rigorous exam May 13 to obtain certification:
