GAF sponsors green training program
GAF, Wayne, N.J., has announced its sponsorship of the Certified Green Distributor™ Program, an online, on-demand training, green certification and marketing support program for one-step distributors. The web-based training has five modules related to one-step distributors: Air Sealing, Cladding, Roofing, Insulation and Roof Shingle Recycling. Each module is accompanied by a downloadable study guide available at www.certifiedgreendistributor.org.
In addition, GAF has launched its Certified Green Roofer Program that includes a multiyear sponsorship with www.ShingleRecycling.org, a site that helps contractors and distributors connect with qualified shingle recyclers throughout the U.S. and Canada, and www.GAF.com/green, a website with tools and information to educate and inform roofing professionals about the importance of cool roofs, roof ventilation, and green codes and rating systems.
CertainTeed opens new location
CertainTeed Corp., Valley Forge, Pa., has opened a new 150,000-square-foot roofing product warehouse in Jonesburg, Mo. The warehouse is the first of a planned $100 million complex scheduled to open in 2016, which will serve as the Midwestern production and distribution site for the company's roofing products and service central U.S. customers. Construction is under way for a 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that will produce CertainTeed's Landmark™ shingles.
When complete, the facility will serve as the production and distribution site for residential roofing shingles, creating about 100 permanent jobs for the community and 400 ancillary local jobs in trucking, welding and maintenance services.
DaVinci announces contest winner
DaVinci Roofscapes LLC, Lenexa, Kan., has announced Brigitte and Mike Meehan of Elgin, Ill., have won DaVinci Roofscapes' 2014 "Shake it Up" Exterior Color Contest, a $5,000 cash grand prize. The Meehans' winning "Trapped in Cookie Cutter Land!" entry described how they would like to have new colorful exterior products and landscaping to stand out from their 1,000+ home neighborhood.
The contest required contestants to post digital photos of their homes' exteriors to DaVinci Roofscapes' Facebook page along with a 250-word description stating how they wish to "shake up" the exteriors of their homes. National color expert Kate Smith helped judge the contest to determine the finalists, and the public voted for the winning entry.
Metl-Span joins HPD Collaborative
Metl-Span LLC, Lewisville, Texas, has announced its voluntary participation in the Health Product Declaration (HPD) Collaborative, a program to help provide accurate information to design professionals about the contents of products.
The program's goal is to standardize the method by which building product manufacturers report contents, emissions, chemical hazards and health effects of their products. The program will help define critical information needed to support accurate supply chain disclosure by manufacturers and suppliers and help building designers, specifiers, owners and users make informed decisions. Completed HPDs provide manufacturer and product information, details of product testing, compliance and product ingredients. HPDs can be updated as products evolve and improve, providing current information to consumers.
ROXUL® opens U.S. manufacturing facility
ROXUL Inc., Milton, Ontario, has opened its first manufacturing facility in the U.S. in Marshall County, Miss. The 600,000- square-foot facility will produce insulation for the residential, commercial, industrial and low-slope roof application markets in the southern U.S. and Mexico. The facility employs about 150 workers.
OMG® Roofing donates tool to auction
OMG Roofing Products, Agawam, Mass., donated a specially decorated PaceCart2® application tool featuring a graphic commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Western States Roofing Contractors Association to the association's annual auction held June 8 in Las Vegas.
The PaceCart2 is OMG Roofing Products' patented application tool used to apply OlyBond500 and OlyBond500 Green Insulation Adhesives. Proceeds from the auction benefit the Davis Memorial Foundation scholarship and grants programs; the scholarships help children within the roofing industry and the grants sponsor technical roofing seminars at colleges and universities.

Contractor passes away
Claude Edward Hedger, general manager of National Roofing Corp., Suffolk, Va., passed away May 31. He was 55 years old.
Hedger is survived by his wife, Tangie; three daughters, Barbara, Betty and Caroline; and two brothers, Alex and Thomas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123, or www.cancer.org.

SRS Distribution expands into Indiana
SRS Distribution Inc., McKinney, Texas, has acquired Muncie, Ind.-based Tri-C Roofing Supply, an independent distributor of residential and commercial roofing, siding and windows servicing east-central Indiana. Tri-C Roofing Supply currently employs 57 people; its owners and the entire operations team will stay with the company. Tri-C Roofing Supply will migrate to the Midwest Roofing Supply brand to gain synergies with other existing Midwest branches in the region.
ABC Supply opens new branch
ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., opened a new branch in Fort Wayne, Ind., June 23. The new location features a complete line of roofing materials, siding and related supplies for professional contractors.
In addition, ABC Supply named Frank Novascone III, managing partner for ABC Supply's Wichita, Kan., branch, the recipient of this year's Ken Hendricks Award during the company's annual Founders' Celebration event June 19. The Ken Hendricks Award was created to honor ABC Supply's co-founder Ken Hendricks and highlight the values he and co-founder Diane Hendricks championed.
A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply opens branch
A.C.T. Metal Deck Supply, Aurora, Ill., opened its 13th distribution center in Albany, N.Y., to serve the northeast construction industry. The distribution center will stock a complete inventory of metal roof decks, form decks and composite floor decks.

Corecon Technologies Inc. has released the Corecon Mobile app for the iPhone and iPad. App features include companies; contacts; projects and project photos; a project directory with the ability to view companies with expired insurance; checklists; punchlists; daily logs; time entry; purchase orders; bills; miscellaneous expenses; to-do lists; alerts; and inbound email. The app is free to Corecon V7 subscribers and can be downloaded from the Apple App store.
EagleView® Technologies Inc. has introduced the QuickSquares™ mobile app for iPhone iOS 7.x. The report app is a sales and marketing tool that provides overall square footage and predominant slope for up to two residential structures in a professional report format in an hour. Users can upgrade to EagleView PremiumReport with an upgrade button. The app is available for download in the Apple App store.

Alliance awards scholarships
The Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress has announced the winners of the Melvin Kruger Endowed Scholarship Program for the 2014-15 academic year. The scholarship program provides recipients with $5,000 per year for up to four years of enrollment at an accredited college, university or vocational technical school based on eligibility. NRCA contractor or supplier member companies' full-time employees and their immediate family members are eligible for the merit-based scholarships.
The new scholarship recipients include Jaclyn Harris, Mooresville, Ind., daughter of Albert Harris, warehouse/fleet manager for Beacon Roofing Supply, Indianapolis, who has been awarded the Firestone Scholarship; Dannelly McKenzie, Columbia, S.C., daughter of Christopher McKenzie, partner at Watts and Associates Roofing, Columbia, S.C.; and Shoshanna Lee, Livermore, Calif., daughter of Calvin Lee, estimator/project manager for Western Roofing Services, San Leandro, Calif.
In addition, the Alliance renewed seven scholarships: Sean Cawley, Birmingham, Ala., who is attending Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn.; Neil Hourahan, Saunderstown, R.I., who is attending University of Massachusetts Amherst, Amherst, Mass.; Carter Hruby, Fargo, N.D., who is attending North Dakota State University, Fargo, N.D., and was awarded the Fred Good Scholarship; Josiah Martin, Richmond, Va., who is attending Christopher Newport University, Newport News, Va.; Alexis Plachecki, Taylor, Wis., who is attending University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Minn., and was awarded the Firestone Scholarship; Jonathan Poore, Harrogate, Tenn., who is attending Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, Tenn., and was awarded the Dan Cohen Scholarship; and Kara Sosinski, Hudson, Ohio, who is attending Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio.
A total of $50,000 was awarded in scholarships for the 2014-15 school year. To date, $580,000 in scholarship awards have been awarded to 110 students.
The Alliance also has awarded its first Construction Management Faculty Scholarships to Jonathan Elliott, assistant professor in the Department of Construction Management at Colorado State University, Fort Collins; James Sullivan, assistant professor in the M.E. Rinker Sr. School of Construction Management at University of Florida, Gainesville; and Jacqueline Thompson, assistant professor in the McWhorter School of Building Science at Auburn University, Auburn, Ala. The faculty members each received $5,000 to develop a plan for the integration of roofing-related materials and case studies into existing curricula. The faculty members will collaborate as they develop their recommendations, and their research outcome will serve as a model to be used in other construction management schools throughout the U.S. Their research will be completed by Oct. 30 so the materials can be introduced into construction management departments in 2015. The final report will include the learning outcomes of integrating roofing-related materials and case studies; an outline of the subject matter and topical content to be taught in classes; and details of the assignment used to assess the learning outcomes.
