Boral Roofing opens design center
Boral Roofing LLC, Irvine, Calif., has opened a new design center in Winter Park, Fla.
The facility showcases Boral Roofing’s products, including concrete, clay and steel roof systems. A variety of product colors and profiles are on display to show homeowners, contractors, architects and remodelers how different products complement various houses and other buildings. In addition to product displays, the design center can host continuing education courses for local architects. Product training sessions also will be held at the facility.
Firestone Building Products opens plant
Firestone Building Products Co. LLC, Nashville, Tenn., has opened its first greenfield plant in Heinsberg, Germany.
The facility, which broke ground in March 2017, is located in the Dremmen District of Heinsberg and employs 20 workers. The plant will help supplement Firestone Building Products insulation production in North America to meet growing demand for complete roofing solutions. Firestone Building Products now operates 15 manufacturing plants worldwide.
“Investing in global production capabilities allows us to better serve our customers in key locations around the world,” says Philip Moors, Firestone Building Products’ managing director of Europe and Asia. “Demand for building products continues to grow in Germany and throughout Europe, and we look forward to partnering with our customers in the local market and beyond to provide industry-leading roofing solutions.”
ATAS International adopts PV system
ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 6 to celebrate the installation of a 620.1-kilowatt photovoltaic solar electric system on its Allentown manufacturing plant.
RER Energy Group installed 1,908 PV panels over the 60,000-square-foot facility’s existing standing-seam metal roof system. The panels will generate more energy than the manufacturing facility consumes; ATAS International will use the excess energy to benefit its nearby headquarters building. The PV system cost about $1 million to install, and the estimated payback is 2 1/2 years.
TAMKO® Building Products receives local award
TAMKO Building Products Inc., Joplin, Mo., was honored as a top local employer in the 2019 Readers’ Choice Favorites of the Four States contest conducted by The Joplin Globe newspaper.
The community voted TAMKO Building Products “Best Industrial Employer” for the second consecutive year and “Best Employer” for the first time.
Founded in Joplin in 1944, TAMKO Building Products employs more than 600 employees in a four-state area (Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma).

Atlas Roofing Corp., Atlanta, has launched its 2019 Roof It Right sweepstakes for Atlas Pro™ contractors.
Contractors can accrue points by becoming Scotchgard™ Protector Shingle Sales Specialists, installing Atlas Signature Select® roof systems and attending Atlas Roofing events. This year, contractors also can earn points by using Atlas Roofing marketing tools and resources and engaging in the Asphalt Life community.
At the end of the year, five contractors will be randomly selected to win the grand prize—an all-expenses-paid weekend trip to Toronto to meet professional contractor and TV host Mike Holmes and his children, Mike Jr. and Sherry, who also are professional contractors and TV hosts. Advanced Roofing acquires MSC Electric
Advanced Roofing Inc., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has acquired MSC Electric Inc., a Davie, Fla.-based electrical contracting company. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Founded in 2001, MSC Electric often has completed subcontract work for Advanced Roofing on major commercial reroofing and solar energy projects in south Florida. The acquisition of MSC Electric is expected to grow Advanced Roofing’s revenue as the demand for solar energy continues to increase.
“Adding MSC Electric’s proven talent to our team enables us to streamline schedules, control costs and be a single source for commercial clients, whether we’re helping them meet aggressive renewable energy goals or update roofs with more durable, energy-efficient systems,” says Clint Sockman, vice president of Advanced Roofing.

ABC Supply expands veteran recruitment
ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., has expanded its veteran recruitment efforts to help military veterans transition to civilian life. ABC Supply has hired more than 800 military veterans since 2017 and is working with organizations such as RecruitMilitary and military.com to employ more veterans in the future. According to ABC Supply, the leadership, problem-solving and communication skills veterans learn while serving in the military are a good fit for roofing professionals.

Beacon Roofing Supply Inc., Herndon, Va., has launched a partnership with JobNimbus, a customer relationship management platform in the roofing industry.
The integration of JobNimbus with Beacon Pro+, Beacon Roofing Supply’s e-commerce platform, enables a contractor to create estimates and submit material orders directly to local Beacon Roofing Supply branches from inside the JobNimbus platform. By activating his or her Beacon Roofing Supply account inside of JobNimbus, a contractor instantly can access custom order templates created in Beacon Pro+. The integration allows contractors to easily build and submit complete orders to Beacon Roofing Supply in minutes.

ARMA recognizes workplace safety
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association has recognized the workplace safety practices of more than 50 facilities, including four that received the prestigious President’s Award.
ARMA’s annual Accident Prevention Contest honors individual roofing manufacturing facilities in North America that have low incident rates among workers. Facilities were judged on the number of hours completed and an ARMA index derived from Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.
The President’s Award is presented to facilities that have the lowest combined ARMA index score during a two-year period. This year, facilities belonging to NRCA members GAF, Parsippany, N.J., and Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio, received President’s Awards. GAF’s Shafter, Calif., facility and Owens Corning’s Summit, Ill.; Portland, Ore.; and Irving, Texas, facilities were recognized for their outstanding safety records.
Roofing Alliance welcomes new member
The Roofing Alliance has announced Cornell Roofing & Sheet Metal Co. Inc., Independence, Mo., has joined at the Governor level.
The Roofing Alliance was established within the National Roofing Foundation in 1996 to create an endowment fund to serve as a resource for the roofing industry and its customers. The Roofing Alliance now has 168 members representing the contracting, manufacturing, distributing and service provider communities.
