GAF holds sports challenge for contractors
GAF, Parsippany, N.J., has partnered with Athlon Sports and Entertainment Group, Nashville, Tenn., to create the GAF Sports Challenge for residential and commercial roofing contractors.
Contractors can participate in two online "pick 'em" sports challenges—an auto racing contest held February through November and a football challenge held September through December. GAF's partnership with Athlon Sports and Entertainment Group enables GAF to provide the most up-to-date sports information for contest participants making their weekly picks. Based on a points system, contractors who actively participate will be eligible to win weekly prizes and an end-of-the-season grand prize. Contractors can register for the GAF Sports Challenge at www.gafsports.com.
Roofmaster® Products Co. opens distribution center
Roofmaster Products Co., Los Angeles, has announced Grand Prairie, Texas, as the location of its new distribution center.
The 15,000-square-foot facility will offer products and services to roofing contractors in an area encompassing 10 states, including Roofmaster Products' full line of branded equipment and tools. A grand opening will be held at the facility April 15 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
IKO Industries unveils new roofing brand
IKO Industries, Kankakee, Ill., has unveiled its new residential roofing brand identity for North America.
The brand redesign features clean visuals to attract contractors' attention to IKO Industries' roofing shingles. An expanded social media presence also aims to drive customer engagement with the company. In addition, IKO Industries has expanded its sales support and training programs and enhanced its sales promotions.
Owens Corning to acquire InterWrap
Owens Corning, Toledo, Ohio, has signed an agreement to acquire Vancouver, British Columbia-based InterWrap, a roof underlayment and packaging materials manufacturer, for $450 million. The transaction is expected to close during the first half of 2016.
The acquisition provides Owens Corning with locations in the U.S., Canada, India and China that will continue to produce synthetic roof underlayment and packing products for lumber and metal.
W.P. Hickman becomes OMG Edge Systems
OMG Roofing Products, Agawam, Mass., has relaunched its W.P. Hickman business as OMG Edge Systems.
Operating as OMG Edge Systems, the company will continue to manufacture a variety of warrantied and custom roof edge products, including fascia, coping and gutter systems. During the next several months, the company will develop an integrated marketing communications program and launch a new website to introduce the brand to contractors and roofing specifiers.
GCP Applied Technologies becomes independent
GCP Applied Technologies Inc. (formerly known as Grace Construction), Cambridge, Mass., has announced its global launch as an independent publicly traded company.
The company's new status comes after its separation from W.R. Grace & Co., Columbia, Md. The separation is intended to enable the companies to grow faster, introduce new and better products more quickly, and improve service to customers by becoming more focused on unique market segments. GCP Applied Technologies is a $1.5 billion company with about 2,400 employees at locations in 40 countries.

ARMA announces QARC award winners
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has announced the winners of its 2016 Quality Asphalt Roofing Case-Study (QARC) Awards.
The QARC Awards recognize exceptional asphalt roofing projects completed in the U.S. and Canada. This year's program focused on the way contractors used advances in technology and shingle design while showcasing asphalt's durability in a high-performing roof system.

RCMA presents Martin A. Davis award
The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) presented its Martin A. Davis award to Greg Johnson, legislative affairs director for Sherwin-Williams, Cleveland, during its annual meeting Feb. 15 in Orlando, Fla. The award recognizes outstanding service and significant contributions to the roof coatings industry.
In addition, RCMA elected its 2016 slate of officers. The following officers will serve two-year terms on the board of directors: John Stubblefield, national product manager for NRCA member Polyglass USA, Deerfield Beach, Fla., is president; Jonathan Dietzel, vice president, raw materials for SWT Group, Windsor, Ontario, and Greg Hlavaty, general manager for NRCA member Western Colloid, Los Angeles, are vice presidents; Ed Buczek, product manager, commercial roofing and waterproofing for NRCA member Henry Co., El Segundo, Calif., is secretary; and Benjamin Borns, scientist, diversified brands for KST Coatings, Cleveland, is treasurer.
MCA elects new officers
The Metal Construction Association (MCA) elected its 2016 officers and directors during its annual meeting Feb. 2 in St. Pete Beach, Fla.
Dale Nelson, president of Roof Hugger Inc., Odessa, Fla., is chairman; Ed Karper, account manager for Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc., Columbus, Ohio, is vice chairman; Jim Bush, vice president of sales and marketing for NRCA member ATAS International Inc., Allentown, Pa., is treasurer; Norbert Schneider, general manager—Asia Pacific & Americas of Umicore Building Products USA Inc., Raleigh, N.C., is secretary; and Karl Hielscher, president of Metl-Span, Lewisville, Texas, is past chairman.
Also on the Executive Committee are Bill Croucher, director of engineering for Fabral, Lancaster, Pa., serving as technical committee chairman; Brian Partyka, president of NRCA member Drexel Metals Inc., Louisville, Ky., serving as marketing development chairman; and Dick Bus, president of ATAS International Inc., serving as president of the Metal Roofing Alliance.

NTRCA announces board of directors
The North Texas Roofing Contractors Association (NTRCA) has announced its 2016 officers.
Matt Hines, president and CEO of MRB Contractors, Irving, Texas, is president; Holly Green, owner of Brettco Roofing, Fort Worth, Texas, is president-elect; AJ Huckaby, owner of Springtree Roofing and Restoration, Plano, Texas, is past president; and Jo Ann Moreno, territory manager for NRCA member GAF, Parsippany, N.J., is treasurer.
In addition, NTRCA presented its Industry Leader of the Year, Associate of the Year and Golden Hammer Awards during its awards banquet Feb. 6.
The Industry Leader of the Year award is the association's most prestigious recognition and was awarded to Judy Smith, co-founder of NRCA member Lon Smith Roofing, Fort Worth. John Gibson, owner of NRCA member C-CAP, Lewisville, Texas, was awarded Associate of the Year.
Brettco Roofing and NRCA member Supreme Roofing, Dallas, received Golden Hammer Awards for community service projects. NRCA members Castro Roofing of Texas, Dallas; KPost Company, Dallas; and Supreme Roofing received Golden Hammer Awards for commercial work. Buzz Roofing & Construction, Fort Worth; NRCA member Roofing Giant, Dallas; and Showtime Exteriors, Mansfield, Texas, received Golden Hammer Awards for residential work. And NRCA member Scott Exteriors, Dallas, was awarded the second annual Green Roofing Golden Hammer Award for its work on an energy-efficient house with metal roofing, trim and siding.

Malarkey Roofing Products has named Chris Erickson, Brian Krohn, Chad Ruttenbur and James Servais sales representatives of its western region.

April regional summit to be held in Texas
NRCA will hold its Roofing Industry Regional Summit April 11 at the Dallas Fort Worth Airport Marriott in Irving, Texas. Roofing professionals are invited to attend and learn about the latest roofing industry issues. The one-day event will provide information about technological, safety and legal challenges roofing professionals may encounter. Attendees will learn from top industry experts and have the opportunity to network with peers.
