Stevens names award winners

Holyoke, Mass.-based Stevens Roofing Systems has announced the 94 Authorized Stevens Applicators that are 2003 Alliance winners. The winners of the highest honor, the Platinum Plus Award, were NRCA members D.C. Taylor Co., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, which has been a Platinum Plus winner for seven consecutive years, and Invincible Associates Inc., Largo, Fla.

The Alliance Award levels—Alliance, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus—are determined by the number of credit points Authorized Stevens Applicators earn by completing various activities during the program year. Both Platinum Plus companies earned more than 2 million points during 2003. Criteria include prompt handling of project documentation and quality of workmanship.

Mule-Hide announces warranty

Beloit, Wis.-based Mule-Hide Products Co. Inc. and Chicago-based Weston Solutions Inc. have teamed up to offer a Wrap-Around warranty that covers Weston Solutions' GREENGRID™ System modules, as well as Mule-Hide Products' single-ply roof system. GREENGRID is said to be a flexible, repairable green roof system consisting of modules made from recycled plastics that can be put directly on a roof membrane.

W.P Hickman chairman awarded

John Hickman, chairman of Asheville, N.C.-based W.P. Hickman Co., was honored with a member appreciation award at SPRI's annual conference in January. Hickman was honored for his dedication to the quality and safety of commercial roofing, as well as his contributions to SPRI. Hickman has assisted in the development of Roof Edge Guidelines, which has led to the creation of the "Roof Edge Design Standard" and the standard's inclusion in the International Building Code.

CertainTeed receives award

The National Association of Home Builders Research Center, Upper Marlboro, Md., and EH Publishing, Wayland, Mass., presented CertainTeed Corp., Valley Forge, Pa., with the Innovative Housing Technology Award in the energy category at the International Builders' Show held in Las Vegas on Jan. 20. The award recognizes manufacturers for their significant contributions to technology development in the industry, and CertainTeed won for its MemBrain™ smart vapor retarder.

RoofMart forms partnership

Chapman, Kan.-based RoofMart International Inc. and Chesapeake, Va.-based WIWA Wilhelm Wagner LP (WIWA) have partnered to offer WIWA's Duomix spray unit to apply RoofMart's Garna-Flex coating material. The plural component airless spray unit can be used for two- and three-component materials. Garna-Flex is a plural-component waterproof coating with an 8-1 ratio.

Johns Manville honors contractors

Johns Manville Roofing Systems Group, Denver, has announced that 21 roofing contractors have met its standards of quality and performance and qualified for membership in the Johns Manville Pinnacle Council.™ Council members receive recognition, enhanced benefits and rewards and serve as advisers to the Johns Manville Roofing Systems Group.

Qualified contractors are chosen based on their dedication and knowledge of Johns Manville roof systems, as well as their track record for serving building owners and providing quality. Council members are chosen from the Johns Manville Peak Advantage™ contractor program, which provides education and training to promote business opportunities to its members. Council members were chosen from the Summit Club level, the highest Peak Advantage program level.

SFS intec restructures

Wyomissing, Pa.-based SFS intec Inc. has announced the consolidation of its Weather Gard product group and Dekfast product group into one sales group for all products and fastening systems.

As part of the consolidation, the following positions were appointed: W. Keith Ammerman—West sales manager; Roy Bieber—marketing services manager; Gary Chimko—East sales manager; Scott Hutchings—manager of national accounts; Thomas Van Kirk—Weather Gard product manager; and Ronald R. Wright—manager of national accounts.

Jeffrey F. Imes has been named chief executive officer of W.P. Hickman Co.

Stevens Roofing Systems has appointed Tom Martinelli district sales manager for Colorado, southern Idaho, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

Frank Palmer has been appointed Western regional manager of Versico Inc.

Carolinas group forms alliance

The Carolinas Roofing & Sheet Metal Contractors Association has signed a partnership with the North Carolina Department of Labor (formerly known as the North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration). The purpose of the partnership is to prevent industry accidents by promoting and providing safety training and health education programs.

RCMA elects officers

The Roof Coatings Manufacturers Association (RCMA) elected the following 2004 officers at its 2004 Annual Conference & EXPO held Jan. 17-20 in San Diego: president—Van Ripps, president of Palmer Asphalt Co., Bayonne, N.J.; vice president of member services—Richard W. Paradise, president of Innovative Adhesives Co., Kansas City, Kan.; vice president of long-range planning—Stephen R. Hudak, president of KST Coatings Manufacturing Inc., Twinsburg, Ohio; and secretary/treasurer—Paul A. Beemer, director of legal and technical affairs for Henry Co.'s Coatings Division, Huntington Park, Calif.

Also at the conference, John J. Sullivan received the Martin A. Davis RCMA Industry Leadership Award, and James D. Hunter received the RCMA Industry Statesman Award. Sullivan, vice president of sales for Solon, Ohio-based Interfibe Corp., was honored for his outstanding service and significant contributions to the roof coatings industry. Hunter, a research chemist at Tampa, Fla.-based Gardner-Gibson Inc., was honored for his efforts in advancing roof coatings technology on behalf of RCMA.

PIMA names chairwoman

On Jan. 1, the Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association (PIMA) named Alma Garnett, founder and vice president of Hunter Panels, Portland, Maine, as PIMA chairwoman. Born in Cambridge, England, Garnett began working for Admiral Sales, Boston, in 1984 and was vice president of sales and marketing at NRG Barriers, Portland, from 1991-97 before founding Hunter Panels in 1998.

RoofConnect elects 2004 officers

RoofConnect announced the following 2004 officers during its board of directors meeting held in Las Vegas Jan. 16-17: president—Johnny Zamrzla, president of Western Pacific Roofing Corp., Palmdale, Calif.; vice president—Conrad Kawulok, president of B & M Roofing of Colorado Inc., Boulder; and secretary/treasurer—Bruce Fryer, president of Fryer Roofing Co. Inc., Fresno, Calif.

  • Georgia-Pacific Corp.'s Building Products Division has launched a new interactive Web site at www.gp.com/build. The Web site features "microsite" segments for different professionals, product information, interactive projects and visuals about Georgia-Pacific's building product installation, and a virtual tour of the Georgia-Pacific showcase home. With a frequently asked questions section and product literature library, the Web site also includes a permission-based discussion forum for builders and architects.
