Carlisle Companies to acquire Petersen Aluminum
Carlisle Companies Inc., Scottsdale, Ariz., has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire Petersen Aluminum Corp., Elk Grove Village, Ill., a manufacturer of metal roofing products, for about $197 million.
Founded by Maurice R. Petersen in 1965, Petersen Aluminum manufactures and distributes architectural metal roof panels, steel and aluminum flat sheets and coils, wall panels, perimeter roof edge systems, and related accessories for commercial and residential markets. The company has about $160 million in annual revenue.
"The acquisition of Petersen Aluminum is part of our strategy of providing customers with a portfolio of high-quality, innovative products and solutions that meet an increasing array of their building envelope needs," says Chris Koch, president and CEO of Carlisle Companies. "Petersen Aluminum is an excellent fit with our recent acquisitions in the metal roofing space, including Drexel Metals, Sunlast Metal and Premium Panels, as well as a significant complementary addition to our single-ply roofing systems."
TAMKO® Building Products will donate roof to veteran
TAMKO Building Products, Joplin, Mo., has partnered with Operation FINALLY HOME, a nonprofit organization that provides mortgage-free homes to veterans, to donate a roof system on a new house specially built for wounded Army veteran Charlotte Ferris.
Ferris and her four children were selected to receive a custom-built, mortgage-free house provided by Operation FINALLY HOME. In November 2018, the family was surprised with a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of their new home in Weatherford, Texas. Believing they were attending a preliminary interview with Operation FINALLY HOME, Ferris and her family were instead greeted by a cheering crowd.
Ferris was deployed in Iraq when the armored truck she was driving was struck by an improvised explosive device. She searched for her crew, all of whom survived, before realizing her ankle was broken and her ear drum ruptured. She was medically evacuated and underwent surgery for her injuries but now suffers from PTSD, traumatic brain injury, post-concussive headaches and tinnitus. For her service and bravery, Ferris was awarded a Purple Heart, an Army Commendation Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.
Operation FINALLY HOME has completed 151 mortgage-free homes and 18 home modifications for veterans. The organization partners with builder associations, builders, developers, corporate sponsors and volunteers to raise the funds, provide materials, and complete the planning and labor for each project.
This is the first time TAMKO Building Products has participated in an Operation FINALLY HOME project. The company has a long history of supporting veterans.
"Specialist Ferris and others like her are American heroes, and it's our great honor to say 'thank you' in this way," says David Humphreys, president and CEO of TAMKO Building Products. "This is especially meaningful to us because it's in the Dallas area that we've called home for more than 30 years."
Operation FINALLY HOME expects Ferris' new home to be completed this year.

ERA releases resilience report
The EPDM Roofing Association (ERA) has released "Building Resilience: The Roofing Perspective," a report that focuses on 2018 events and includes sections addressing cataclysmic weather events and their impact; policy responses, especially those recommending spending on mitigation; and legislative initiatives. Additional sections focus on state-of-the-art approaches to building a resilient roof system and an index of sources with in-depth information regarding resilience.
"This report is designed to be a resource for the building community as we face the challenge of creating resilient structures," says Jared Blum, ERA's executive director. "While people may disagree about the cause, there is no disagreement that we are experiencing increasingly cataclysmic weather events that threaten our built environment."
