ABC Supply expands business
ABC Supply Co. Inc., Beloit, Wis., has expanded its business with 16 facilities. The company acquired Little Rock, Ark.-based Burton Building Products and will continue operating Burton Building Products' 11 facilities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. The locations will sell Burton Building Products' siding and windows, as well as ABC Supply's exterior building products and tools.
In addition, ABC Supply built five new distribution facilities in Illinois and Ohio. The company's new facilities will extend its services to contractors in those areas.
RoofMart earns recognition
RoofMart International Inc., Chapman, Kan., has been named to Wilton, Conn.-based Deloitte & Touche's 2001 Technology Fast 50 Program for the Kansas/western Missouri region for the sixth consecutive year. Deloitte & Touche ranked RoofMart International 38.
The program ranks the fastest-growing technology companies in 21 regions. Standings are based on revenue growth percentages from the past five years. To qualify for recognition, companies had to have minimum operating revenue of $50,000 in 1996 and $1 million in 2000. Companies also must produce, manufacture, research or develop technology.
Urecoats opens distribution center
Pompano Beach, Fla.-based Urecoats Industries Inc. has opened an Orlando, Fla.-based distribution center for its products and those of its subsidiary Infiniti Paint Co. Inc., Pompano Beach. The facility will be operated by Infiniti Paint and distribute sealants, coatings, paints and adhesives for the construction industries. The facility was built to extend Urecoats' business to contractors in the region.
National Steel files Chapter 11
Mishawaka, Ind.-based National Steel Corp. filed Chapter 11 under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. According to National Steel representatives, the company filed Chapter 11 because of low steel prices, high levels of steel imports and the weak U.S. economy. The company has reached an agreement for $450 million of debtor-in-possession financing to continue its operations while reducing debt. The financing will be used to pay the company's vendors for postpetition purchases.
Dow vice president relocates to Europe
David Fischer, business vice president of Midland, Mich.-based Dow's Polyurethanes Business, will lead the section from Dow's European headquarters in Horgen, Switzerland. The move reportedly will strengthen the balance between Dow's European and U.S. headquarters and reinforce the company's global business.
Fischer says: "The move enables me to gain some valuable insights into an important region of our business. Europe constitutes nearly one-third of our global sales, and we have a significant number of strategic customers there."
MonierLifetile opens training center
Irvine, Calif.-based MonierLifetile recently opened a training center in Rialto, Calif., to teach its employees about concrete tile roof system installations, customer service, sales and production-related skills.
Michael Penny, president and chief executive officer of MonierLifetile, says: "We are pleased to open this facility because it represents a tangible investment in our employees. We believe a well-trained work force is key to the ongoing success of MonierLifetile."
Up the Ladder
Powers Fasteners Inc. has promoted Lenny Colasuonno to vice president of sales. In addition, Jim Middleton, Rob Moe and Shawn Hazen have been named East, Midwest and West regional sales managers, respectively.
Richard Sturma has been appointed Bostik Findley Inc.'s Distribution Group territory manager for Arizona, California and Nevada.
Urecoats Industries Inc. has named Joe Klecko vice president of Northeast sales and Ronald E. Clark chief operating officer.
