CertainTeed sponsors Daytona 500 winner
NASCAR driver Ward Burton, who is sponsored by Valley Forge, Pa.-based CertainTeed Corp.'s roofing and ventilation divisions, recently won the Daytona 500. 2002 marks the second year the company has sponsored Burton's No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge. Burton is the spokesman for The Contractors Edge,™ CertainTeed's multilevel business-building credentials program for roofing contractors. Burton will make appearances for CertainTeed at its manufacturing facilities, customer events and NASCAR races.

In other news, CertainTeed will give Roofer's Rewards™ dollars to roofing contracting companies that register SureStartâ„¢ PLUS extended warranties. Companies with The Contractor's Edge ShingleMaster Crew status that register five SureStart PLUS 3-Star warranties receive $500 per year in rewards. Companies participating as SELECT Shingle Roofers in the program can earn up to $1,500 per year in rewards for registering 3-Star, 4-Star or 5-Star SureStart PLUS extended warranties.
Roofer's Rewards dollars can be used for national or local roofing contractor association membership dues, advertising, business-training courses, CertainTeed-approved networks, business resources catalog purchases or CertainTeed shingle purchases.
Paslode sponsors Sweepstakes
Paslode, Vernon Hills, Ill., is celebrating 40 years in business with its Paslode Powers America Sweepstakes.
The promotion will run until Dec. 15, and a 2002 Ford F-150XLT pickup truck is the grand prize. Three first-prize winners will receive five sets of the company's power tools. Twenty second-prize winners will win leather jackets, and 1,000 third-prize winners will receive Paslode T-shirts. Siplast changes name and logo
Irving, Texas-based Siplast Inc. is changing its name to Icopal. The company has been a part of the Herlev, Denmark-based Icopal Group since 1989 and is changing its name to extend Icopal brand recognition to North America and South America. Currently, the Siplast and Icopal logos are being used together, but beginning January 2003, Icopal's name and logo will be used exclusively.
Firestone receives Energy Star® label
Firestone Building Products Co., Carmel, Ind., has received the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Energy Star label for its Firestone UltraPly® TPO reflective roof membrane. To qualify for the label, a roofing product must meet DOE and EPA criteria for reflectivity and reliability. The Energy Star label promotes household and commercial building products that save energy and money.
In addition, the company is offering a 10-year warranty for materials and labor on its Energy Star-compliant AcryliTop PC-100 Roofing Coating System.
In other news, Firestone has acquired the TPO membrane manufacturing assets of Wellford, S.C.-based Serrot International, a division of Waste Management Inc. The acquisition includes an 80,000-square-foot (7200-m²) production and warehouse facility in Wellford; a Wellford-based manufacturing line; and Henderson, Nev.-based manufacturing line. According to company representatives, the Henderson line will be relocated to Wellford.
G-P Gypsum is code-compliant
Atlanta-based G-P Gypsum Corp. has received 2002 approvals from the Miami-Dade Building Code Compliance Office under the office's Notice of Acceptance 01-0820.07 for its Dens-Deck® and Dens-Deck Prime™ roof boards. The code approves products for use in metropolitan Dade County, Fla.

Urecoats Industries Inc. hired David E. Dana as director of research and new product development and James Phillip Newell as vice president of sales.
Bostik Findley Inc. appointed Greg Jones Distribution Group territory manager for industrial product sales in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, western New York, Ohio, western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Stevens Roofing Systems named Michael Mosher national sales manager and Gary Kline district sales manager. In addition, the company promoted Gordon Blackwell to vice president of operations.
